【ASCEND Tech for Good Scheme】Connecting Generations • Advancing Digital Inclusion 📱👵👨🎓
Organised by MedMind Technology International, one of ASCEND’s youth-led startups, the “Bridging Generations: Tech Buddies for Digital Inclusion” Fun Day successfully took place on 13 July, bringing together nearly 500 elderly people, youth and community partners for an exciting day of technology challenges and intergenerational interaction!🎉
👵 Senior Tech Challenges: Putting Learning into Practice
Through a series of interactive digital challenges, elderly people who had participated in the Tech Buddies Training Workshops were able to apply the digital skills they had learned in class, including the use of WhatsApp, HA Go and Google Maps. By completing different game missions at the game booths, participants put their learning into practice, strengthened their confidence in using digital technologies and were encouraged to incorporate these tools into their everyday lives.
👨🎓 Social Innovation Design Competition: Addressing Real Needs
The event also featured a Social Innovation Design Competition, attracting five teams of secondary school students. Drawing on real needs identified through their experience as Youth Tech Buddies, students developed creative and practical solutions to address the elderly’s technology-related challenges. Elderly people also took on the role of "User Judges" and voted for the "People’s Choice Award", ensuring that students' ideas were closely aligned with real user needs.
🎤 Advancing Intergenerational Digital Inclusion Together
At the Closing Ceremony, Ms Sam Lam, Interim Director of J.C.DISI and Mr Nathan Hui, Programme Director of Medmind Technology International shared the achievements of the Tech Buddies Programme and highlighted the importance of intergenerational digital inclusion.
Ms Amylia Chan, Interim Director of PolyU KTEO and Co-Chair of the ASCEND Management Committee, also joined the event and, together with Sam and Nathan, presented awards to the winning student teams in recognition of their creativity and efforts in addressing real social needs through innovation.
A big thanks to all VIP guests, elderly people, students and community partners for making the event a success. Together, we are advancing intergenerational digital inclusion, turning technology into a bridge that connects communities, and building a more inclusive, people-centred smart city. 💙
