That’s officially a wrap on our Spring drives for “35 for Life”, at HKUST. Before we log off for the summer, let’s look at what we actually achieved together:

❤️15 drives down.
❤️704 registrations.
❤️625 units of blood collected.

What’s truly remarkable is 280 of you stepped up to to donate for the very first time. You proved that when it comes to stepping up for the wider community, HKUST doesn't hesitate.

To everyone who rolled up their sleeves, conquered their fear of needles, or showed up simply to support your friend who is donating – thank you.

We are taking a midway break to catch our breath. See you next semester.💪

✨ ᴀꜱᴘɪʀᴇ · ᴄᴏɴɴᴇᴄᴛ · ᴛʀᴀɴꜱꜰᴏʀᴍ | ᴀ ʏᴇᴀʀ ᴏꜰ ꜱᴏᴄɪᴀʟ ɢᴏᴏᴅ 🌍

Today we celebrated 170 students stepping up to serve, learn, and act. We are so proud of their growth this year across service learning, mentoring, and social innovation! 💡

This momentum wouldn't be possible without our 70+ community and impact partners, as well as our school and department advisors. 🌟 Thank you for guiding our students and helping them find their footing in a fast-changing world.

Community engagement is never just about volunteering. It’s about shifting perspectives, building empathy, and growing into the kind of leaders the world earnestly needs. 🌍

Whether you presented an award, cheered on our service leaders, or simply connected over lunch today—thank you for being part of this journey.

Together, we ! 🤝💜

🧐 EXCUSE or FACT?!
Is your reason for not donating actually valid? We’re putting the most common excuses to the test.

🏃‍♂️ “I don’t go to the gym” ➡️ 𝙉𝙊𝙏 𝙑𝘼𝙇𝙄𝘿. If you’re young and healthy, you’re ready.
📅 “I donated last year” ➡️ 𝙉𝙊𝙏 𝙑𝘼𝙇𝙄𝘿. Men can give 4x and women 3x a year!
📚 “I’m too busy with midterms” ➡️ 𝙁𝘼𝘾𝙏, but not an excuse.

With 35 drives this year, there’s a 15-minute slot with your name on it. ⚡️

𝑪𝒍𝒂𝒊𝒓𝒆 - 𝑺𝒕𝒖𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑪𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒄 𝑭𝒆𝒍𝒍𝒐𝒘𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝑬𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 (𝑾𝒊𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝟐𝟓/𝟐𝟔)

I originally joined the Civic Fellowship because I wanted to experience working in an NGO. To be honest, I had always thought I was not interested in people-oriented work. This belief was one of the reasons I chose to major in accounting, a field I assumed would involve more numbers than people.

However, this fellowship has completely changed my perception. The days I remember most are not the ones spent cutting paper, but the ones spent with students, leading the e-run, facilitating board games, and seeing them gain something from the activities. I discovered that I actually ✨enjoy working with people. I found myself energized by the conversations💬, and even the challenges of engaging different personalities.

This realization has prompted me to reconsider my career plans🛣️. While I am still pursuing my accounting major, I am now more open to roles that combine my analytical skills with people engagement👥, such as client-facing roles in accounting firms, or community-focused positions in NGOs. I have learned that I should not box myself into a stereotype, and that sometimes the best way to discover what you like is to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.

(This is a reflection adapted from the Student Civic Fellow’s sharing.)
