【都大探索】機械人如何重建人與人聯結？

「我不要那部機器。」一位八十歲的婆婆去年在長者中心望着新到的陪伴機械人，對筆者說出這句帶點抗拒的話。她並不是害怕科技，而是擔心「機器來了，人就走了」。近年，具身智能（Embodied AI）的普及速度遠超想像，很多人憧憬機械人可減輕社會照顧長者的負擔。然而，把一部功能強大的機械人放在長者面前，然後轉身離去，真的足夠嗎？

香港都會大學（都大）作為香港首間應用科學大學，積極推動具影響力的應用研究，致力將科研成果轉化為實用方案，回饋社會。筆者在都大護理及健康學院從事樂齡科技研究，近年完成了兩個長者科技項目，當中的發現都為我們帶來不少反思及啟發。

第一個項目是測試輔助走路的「動力外骨骼」。幾乎所有試用的長者都認為能減輕膝蓋負擔。其中一位伯伯在試用後小聲問：「我穿着它外出，別人會怎麼看我？」這反映他真正的顧慮，並不是科技本身，而是其他人的看法，例如被標籤為殘疾人士。

要克服長者對科技的戒心，關鍵不在於追求功能最強的裝置，而是要有醫護人員或照顧者在旁陪伴、指導與持續跟進，才能幫助長者建立信心，將科技轉化為關愛，讓他們在熟悉的環境中安老，並重新建立社交連結。

第二個項目是探討長者對陪伴機械人的看法。都大研究發現，長者對機械人的體積和移動能力沒特別要求，他們最看重的是「陪伴聊天」與「安全提醒」功能，並相信訂製化的陪伴機械人能提升幸福感與健康。這代表着長者真正渴求的是「被關心」與「安全感」。長者願意跟機械人聊天、訴說健康狀況，但關鍵是如何跟進機械人收集到的信息？

而更重要的是，機械人可以預測風險、定時提醒用藥，卻無法取代人與人之間的溫度。醫護及照顧者的主動聆聽及持續跟進，才是讓科技傳遞關愛的橋樑。

科技可成為關愛載體

麻省理工學院機械人學家丹妮拉·羅斯（Daniela Rus）在其著作《The Heart and the Chip》強調，機械人只是工具，其影響力完全取決於人類如何設計和部署。這與我們提倡的「三角互動模式」想法不謀而合：不是讓機械人取代人，真正的關鍵在於我們如何利用機械人，傳遞關愛給另一個人。

基於以上反思，我們的研究團隊並非只追逐最先進的機械人科技，而是專注探討如何讓科技成為人與人之間關愛的載體。為此，我們正開展第三個樂齡科技項目：開發一部以私隱為先、並具文化適配性的桌面型陪伴機械人，把前兩個項目的啟發，轉化為具體的照護方案。

這部機械人以一套由醫護人員主導的「關愛框架」為核心，把四種基本的關懷融入長者日常：
• 定時問候：讓長者感受到被惦記；
• 鼓勵進步：肯定長者健康上的微小進展，讓他們知道自己的努力被看見；
• 健康資訊：以淺顯易懂的方式分享保健知識，幫助長者建立自我照顧的信心；
• 同理心陪伴：在長者情緒低落時給予適當回應，讓他們感受到被理解與接納。

要做到以上四點，機械人並不需要高速運算能力，真正重要的是源自於人的真心。有別於一般依賴雲端AI的機械人，這部機械人採用終端運算技術，所有數據會由機械人自身的AI運算單元處理，保障個人私隱。

另外，機械人的AI運算單元亦支援粵語和普通話，方便長者與機械人溝通。更關鍵的是，整個系統由受過訓練的醫護人員定期檢視互動紀錄，並在有需要時主動介入及跟進。團隊透過這個研究項目探討如何優化這種三角互動模式，讓機械人成為溝通的橋樑，透過科技延伸真人的照顧。

時至今日，筆者仍會想起那位拒絕機械人的婆婆。如果有一天，她願意主動對着機械人說一聲「早晨」，我相信，令她改變的並不是機械人變得多聰明，而是她知道在機械人的另一端，有一個真正關心她的人正在聆聽。

Standing 3.3 metres tall, the Dragon-Riding Bodhisattva draws inspiration from the folk legend of Guanyin riding a dragon. Sculptor Li Chen skilfully unites the Bodhisattva and the mythical dragon into a single composition that conveys stability, movement and spiritual tension, giving expression to a liberated and vivid artistic imagination. ✨ Different editions of the work have been showcased at prestigious international exhibitions and venues, including the Venice Biennale, the National Art Museum of China, the Singapore Art Museum, and Place Vendôme in Paris, to widespread acclaim. 🏛️🌍

Hong Kong Metropolitan University (HKMU) welcomes the appointment of new Council members and the reappointment of current members by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The appointments will take effect on 20 June 2026 for a three-year term.

The newly appointed members are Mr Antonio Kwong Cho-shing and Mr Simon Wong Hin-wing, and the reappointed members are Prof. Chetwyn Chan Che-hin, Ir Alice Chow Kin-tak and Mr Danny Wong Sing-lam.

HKMU warmly welcomes the new Council members and looks forward to benefiting from their extensive experience and invaluable insights from their respective professional sectors, further advancing the University’s development.
