The Hong Kong Academy of Medicine was honoured to conclude the cohort of 2025-2026 of the Empowerment of Young Leaders for Healthy China (健康中国建设菁英赋能计划), a six-month training programme under the National Capacity Building Programme for Human Resources For Health – Pillar on Inter-disciplinary, with the Closing Ceremony held on 25 May 2026 at the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine Jockey Club Building.
The Closing Ceremony was graced by Ms Li Wei, Deputy Director-General of Office of the Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the National Health Commission of the People's Republic of China, Dr. Ronald Lam, Director of Health of the HKSAR Government, together with Academy President Prof. Philip Li and distinguished representatives from the relevant Mainland and Hong Kong healthcare and academic institutions, as well as representatives from the Institute of Philanthropy established by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
The Programme brought together 48 public health and healthcare young leaders across the Mainland for training and exchange in Hong Kong, covering areas including public health systems, healthcare management, specialist training, quality and safety, and professional regulation.
The Academy is grateful for the guidance and support of the National Health Commission, the Institute of Philanthropy, and our different partner institutions, including the Faculties of Medicine and Schools of Public Health of The University of Hong Kong and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Department of Health, and the Hospital Authority.
We sincerely congratulate all participants on completing this meaningful journey and look forward to continued collaboration in advancing healthcare leadership and contributing to the development of Healthy China.

[Registration and Call for Abstracts Now Open]
We are pleased to announce that registration and abstract submission are now open for the Quadripartite Medical Education Conference (QMEC) 2026.
Hosted by the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong, and the Hospital Authority, the conference will take place at the HKAM Jockey Club Building, with pre-conference programmes on 4 September and the main conference on 5–6 September 2026.
Under the theme “Shaping the Future of Medical Education”, QMEC 2026 brings together four key institutions to foster collaboration, share insights, and advance medical education across the continuum from undergraduate to postgraduate training. The Conference will provide a platform for meaningful exchange, fresh perspectives, and active engagement among the medical and healthcare communities.

An international symposium on “Medically Assisted Dying: Global Trends and Asian Perspectives” organized by the Centre for Medical Ethics and Law (CMEL) of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) will be held on 23 May 2026 (Saturday), 9:00am – 5:00pm (HKT) at Academic Conference Room, 11/F, Cheng Yu Tung Tower, Centennial Campus, HKU. This symposium seeks to explore diverse cultural perspectives on the ethical and legal challenges associated with medically assisted dying. Its primary goal is to foster cross-cultural dialogue among distinguished scholars, ethicists, legal experts, clinicians, and policymakers to identify common ground, inform future research, and develop inclusive, ethically sound, and culturally relevant legislative proposals for Hong Kong.
