On the 30th of May, the Department of Translation celebrated a monumental double milestone—our 40th Anniversary & Graduation Dinner—where over 70 participants, including teachers, alumni, and students gathered to mark this special occasion!

A beautiful start to the night—huge thanks to our President, Prof. Joe Qin, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Emilie Yeh, and Head of Department, Prof. Rachel Lung for their inspiring words that connected us to our roots while sparking excitement for the future. We then cheered on our vlog competition winners and dove into lively rounds of games. As the night wrapped up, the room filled with so much warmth. Hearing our alumni and students share their fondest memories reminded us why this department will always feel like home.

To everyone who has been a part of our 40-year journey, thank you for your incredible support and for shaping the proud legacy of our department. As we celebrate our heritage and step into a bright future together, always remember that you will forever be a part of this big family. ❤️

【40載輝煌與新啟航：一個難忘的璀璨之夜 ✨🎓】

5月30日，翻譯系隆重舉行了40周年慶典暨畢業晚宴，當晚有超過70人出席；老師、校友和同學濟濟一堂，共同慶祝這個別具意義的歷史時刻。

衷心感謝校長秦泗釗教授、文學院院長葉月瑜教授及系主任龍惠珠教授帶來的開場致詞，他們啟發人心的話語帶領著我們回溯學系根基，同時展望未來的無限可能。隨後，Vlog比賽的頒獎典禮以及熱鬧的遊戲環節，讓每一位賓客都沉浸在歡樂的氣氛之中。隨著晚宴接近尾聲，校友與學生代表相繼登台，分享了他們在翻譯系的美好回憶。

感謝在40年歲月中與我們並肩同行的每一位翻譯人。大家的支持與付出，共同成就了學系的今天。在我們致敬過去、攜手邁向未來的同時，翻譯系永遠是大家最溫暖的家。❤️

𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐭 𝐉𝐔𝐏𝐀𝐒 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭

Final Year students Thalia Ma and Adrian Law served as interpreters for non-Chinese speaking students at Lingnan JUPAS Consultation Day on 16 May, earning praise from participants.
We invited them to share their experiences.

“In the past I mainly worked on consecutive interpreting. It was my first time doing simultaneous interpreting. It was a challenging yet truly valuable experience,” said Thalia.
Adrian agreed: “This precious learning opportunity not only trained my listening comprehension but also helped me understand the mindset required for simultaneous interpretation: to not be bound by individual words, but rather to focus on the gist and emotions of the speaker.”

We are glad that they used their interpreting skills and knowledge to serve others!

同學傳譯表現獲讚賞

翻譯系四年級馬樂兒及羅佑喬同學5月16日在嶺大聯招諮詢日擔任即時傳譯，為非華語學生提供語言支援，表現獲在場人士讚賞。

小編特邀兩位同學分享感受。

馬同學：「以往我多出任交替傳譯的角色，這是我首次嘗試即時傳譯。任務甚具挑戰性，但同時也是一次寶貴經驗。」

羅同學有同感：「這次難得的學習機會不僅鍛鍊聆聽技巧和理解能力，也令我明白即時傳譯所需要的心態：不拘泥於字眼，而是專注於講者傳達的內容大意和情感。」

同學學以致用，服務非華語學生，值得表揚！

Huge congratulations to Year-3 Translation student Ren Beining on being selected as a Lingnan Foundation W. T. Chan Fellow! This August Beining will leave for the US, pursuing academic studies at UC Berkeley for one semester and taking part in an internship at a local NGO.

“I feel incredibly honored and delighted to be awarded the Fellowship. Since entering Lingnan, I have greatly benefited from the university’s liberal arts education and small-class tutorial system. The Translation programme has also cultivated my interdisciplinary mindset and all-round competence, and I have always been passionate about social services as well as innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives,” said Beining.

Our teachers told us: Translation students have time and again received the prestigious fellowship, showing just how talented and promising they are!

恭喜翻譯系三年級同學任倍寧獲得本年度陳氏學者獎學金！倍寧八月份將啟程前往美國，於加州大學柏克萊分校研修一個學期，並在當地NGO實習。

倍寧說：「很榮幸也非常驚喜能夠獲得陳氏學者獎學金！自入讀嶺大以來，我深深受益於博雅教育的小班教學模式。翻譯系一直著重培養我跨學科、跨領域的思維視野與綜合能力，我亦長期積極參與社會服務，投入創業創新項目。」

系內老師告訴小編，翻譯系同學過去屢獲陳氏獎學金，足證我們的同學才學兼備，未來可期！

On 1 April 2026, students from the course TRA4327 Eco-Translation, led by Prof. Darryl Sterk, stepped into the dark to discover the nocturnal world at Lau Shui Heung Reservoir with eco-guide and snake-catcher Mr. Ray So, the author of “Amphibians and Reptiles in Hong Kong”. 🌿 From observing wildlife in its natural habitat to connecting what they saw with natural science knowledge, the trip turned classroom learning into living, breathing nature.

It was more than a night walk—it was a lesson in how to see, understand, and translate the natural world for others. ✨
