We are highlighting a past initiative that demonstrated how community waste can be transformed into a functional local resource. By collecting 2,800 kg of wastepaper and delivery boxes from Citygate Outlets, we use it as our raw material recycled pulp and transformed it to “Hub Paper.”
Social Inclusion & Origami Application
Our goal was to bridge environmental action with social inclusion. 750 kg of the collected waste was processed into Hub Paper by workers at local sheltered workshops, St. James’ Settlement.
This project also showcased the material’s versatility through the lens of origami craft. To demonstrate that recycling paper can support complex structural design, Hub Paper was used to create a two-meter-tall Wizard RJ and BT21 characters. Thank you for artist Kade Chan and the Hong Kong Origami Academy provided the technical origami expertise, the project highlighted how Hub Paper serves as an ideal medium for large-scale creative programming and intricate folding concepts.

Within current recycling systems, paper products are often exported to other countries or regions for processing, leading to increased transportation-related energy use and environmental impact.
We choose a local approach.
By recovering beverage cartons locally, we regenerate them into recycled paper — HubPAPER — responding to resource circularity through localized processing.
HubPAPER is made from 100% recycled paper pulp, sourced from locally collected beverage cartons.
Through sorting and processing at a local pulp mill, the paper fibre component is recovered, converted into recycled pulp, and used for subsequent paper production.
As a regenerated circular paper material, HubPAPER retains natural variations in fibre structure, colour, and surface texture.
These variations result from the characteristics of recycled fibres and reflect the physical properties of the material.
Sustainability is not defined solely by recycling rates,
but by the design of recovery systems and the integrity of resource circulation.
Through local processing and regenerative application, beverage cartons are reintegrated into a more efficient material cycle.

Since 2020, we’ve had the privilege of partnering with Vitasoy on the ”Vitasoy Beverage Carton Clean Recycling Programme.“ Together, we’ve meticulously crafted unique trophies and certificates from recycled beverage cartons, celebrating sustainable recycling habits in our community.
This vital initiative not only encourages the collection of used beverage cartons but also helps divert one of the most significant waste types—waste paper—from Hong Kong’s overflowing landfills. It innovatively demonstrates how a sustainable lifestyle can support a local, socially inclusive recycling circular economy.
Circular Economy in Action:
Through our collective recycling efforts, we‘ve transformed 210 kg of used beverage cartons and local paper waste into 1,500 stunning awards, generating an estimated carbon reduction of over 1 ton of CO2 equivalent!
A Fusion of Environmentalism and Social Inclusion:
The impact of our collaboration goes beyond environmental care. Each award showcases the incredible skills of artisans with disabilities from partner sheltered workshops. We’ve provided over 1,035 hours of specialized training and employment, fostering an inclusive work environment. This initiative empowers these talented individuals to showcase their craft while contributing to environmental conservation and earning well-deserved recognition.
