Bonnie Lai Antiquities, a gallery specialised in ancient Chinese funerary art, Oscar Chan Yik Long uses the medium of video to examine his relationships with his partner and his mother. As a work of autofiction, it combines real and fictional elements. In a confessional voice-over, Chan talks about his struggle to adjust to the people closest to him and to his new life after leaving Hong Kong. Many of the images that accompany the narration show bizarre objects in the artist's home. Caught in the brutal light of a camera flash, the toy figures, masks and puppets evoke a morbid atmosphere of insecurity and fear. This feeling of dread is heightened by drawings of ghosts and monsters that are superimposed on many of the photographs.

What a coincidence. 3 students from Delft University recognised the towers. The gallery is closed for public today and City Gallery were so nice to give them a tour:)
