We know women still face barriers at work because of unconscious bias and gender discrimination. This is particularly true in creative industries, like architecture and advertising and film, where women are still under-represented, especially at the senior level.

We encourage everyone to support working creative women by removing barriers and calling out gender bias whenever they see or hear it.

               

Did you know women are still only paid 83 cents for every $1 that men are paid? While the gender pay gap has improved over time, data shows progress to close this gap has stalled. Women of every race and ethnicity still make less than their male counterparts, and data shows getting more education or choosing a different industry would not do enough to change this (www.epi.org)

We are often taught social and gender norms that discourage frank discussions on why the gender pay gap still persists. This International Women’s Day, we choose to challenge the stigma on having conversations on gender pay gap. Have conversations on pay transparency and ask do policies at your workplace discriminate against women?

LWD celebrates International Women’s Day, this year’s theme is Choose to Challenge. How might we personally challenge ourselves and others to create a gender equal world? Sarah Phillips is the second half of sister-act startup, Well & Truly Workshops.

Having trained as a natural foods chef in New York at the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health and Culinary Arts, Sarah became a teacher at Jamie Oliver’s Cookery School in London. She then delved into her nutritional education, training as an integrative nutrition health coach and launching her successful 1:1 health coaching practice. Sarah is also a passionate and experienced yoga and meditation teacher.
