Freight industry is one of the most ancient industries in history. Some current practices in use have not been changed for the past century, and most companies are still moving freight with paper documents, phone calls and fax machines. Silicon Valley freight-tech unicorn Flexport is going to discuss how they are transforming and modernizing this old-fashioned industry, and the current trade trends amid the trade war.
We are excited to have Ms Dawn Kaung, the General Manager at Flexport, a digital freight forwarder to come and share her current role in Flexport. The presentation is about “From Steam Engine to Cloud Server: Building an OS for Global Trade” which provides a good opportunity for students who want to pursue a career in supply chain and logistics industry. You will also gain a better overview on how OM can be integrated into your career.
📌The event details are as follows:
Date: 4 November 2019 (Monday)
Time: 6:00pm – 7:00pm
Venue: LSK G003

Great to see the new batch of mentees and mentors at our kick-off gathering of the OM Mentorship program 2019/20 held on Saturday (7 Sept)
Here are the happy faces of our mentors at the event together with the mentees!
We hope by bringing together our students with experienced alumni, students will have the chance to look beyond the classroom and learn from mentors who are professionals and experts from different walks of life. In return, our alumni mentors could reconnect with our program and HKUST.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of OM program, we will talk with a number of OM people. The third in this series is OM alumnus, Mr. Pranav Prasad, who is working in the financial services industry.
“From a day to day perspective, I am often reminded of the management science class that I took in OM. It was one of my favorite classes when I was studying in UST. The course was interesting, and it gave me so many excel skills which I still use every day in my job. Other than that, OM taught me a lot about identifying bottlenecks in processes. That comes in handy at work as well where I constantly have to look at several processes and try to identify what is slowing it down in order to speed it up.”
The complete interview will be featured in the 25th anniversary booklet, which will be published later. Stay tuned for more sharing from other OM people!

We would like to congratulate our OM graduates for their graduation today!
