What happens when you bring together curious students, experienced industry mentors, and a little melted cacao? Pure magic. ๐ซ
โก๏ธOn 4 June, HKBU School of Business took the BUS Mentorship Programme into a relaxing and interpersonal setting โ a chocolate tasting workshop designed to strengthen meaningful connections between students and industry mentors.
๐Over flavour maps and a fun mystery tasting challenge, mentors and mentees connected through shared stories, career advice, and plenty of laughs.
โค๏ธA huge thank you to our dedicated mentors, including Mr Kevin Liem, Treasurer of HKBU, for their continued support in guiding our students.
As Mr Ryan Man, Associate Dean (Undergraduate Studies), shared in his closing remarks:
๐ซ "Chocolate is like a mentor. Itโs something we turn to when we need a little emotional comfort. And just like that, mentors are there to guide us through challenges when we feel stuck."
A strong mentoring relationship starts with genuine conversation. Hereโs to more powerful mentoring moments ahead! ๐ซ

Our brand new โResearch in Actionโ series officially kicked off on 2 June 2026!๐HKBU School of Business welcomed around 100 participants in person and online from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and the Philippines for a thought-provoking discussion on one of governance's most debated questions: does higher civil service pay reduce corruption?
Professor Zhang Han, Dean and Chair Professor of the School, opened the session by emphasising the importance of connecting research with real-world impactโsetting the stage for an afternoon of insightful exchange.
๐ Professor Aris Stouraitis, Department of Accountancy, Economics and Finance (AEF), then took us through 45 years of data across 90 government departments, tracing Hong Kongโs anti corruption journey and sharing evidence based insights on a question debated for over 1,000 years โ whether higher civil service salaries can reduce corruption. He offered two key findings:
๐ฐ Higher civil service pay does reduce corruption
๐ This effect is reinforced when complemented by a strong public perception of antiโcorruption enforcement
The session wrapped up with an engaging Q&A, moderated by Professor Chen Ting, Associate Head (Research), AEF, which sparked meaningful dialogue among professionals, academics, and students, with enthusiastic participation both onsite and online. ๐
๐ A big thank you to everyone who joined us and made this such a vibrant and inspiring launchโstay tuned for more to come!
