This is day 3 (Jun 4) of our CityUHK CS Study Tour 2025.
In the morning, we visited Kanadevia Advanced Information Technology Center, a company developing tech solutions for people and the planet. The center focuses on remote monitoring and support for system operations, as well as developing new innovations using IoT and big data. Students attended a talk to learn about the related technologies followed by a tour guided by a robot.
In the afternoon, students got a valuable chance to see the research led by professors and PhD students in Kyoto University. Projects ranged from generating 3D models with multi-view cameras, AI-driven ping pong tactics to autonomous robotic movement. It was a great opportunity to explore and understand the research shaping the future of computer vision and automation.

Honorable Mention Award at MobileHCI’24🎉
Prof Weitao Xu, together with CS PhD graduate Dr Di Duan and former CS Research Assistant Mr Aochen Jiao, have been awarded the Honorable Mention Award at the ACM International Conference on Mobile Human-Computer Interaction (MobileHCI’24). The paper titled “Medusa3D The Watchful Eye Freezing Illegitimate Users in Virtual Reality Interactions”, was recognized at the conference held from 30 September to 3 October 2024 in Melbourne, Australia.
The team addresses the limitations in current VR user authentication systems, which often rely on cumbersome password-based or static biometric methods that are susceptible to shoulder surfing attacks. Their innovative solution, Medusa3D, introduces a challenge-response authentication system based on reflexive eye responses. These responses are involuntary and effortless, providing a secure and user-friendly method for authentication.
