嗰日 1 月 1 號元旦，我地响武館露台搞燒野食。雖然有 D 涼風陣陣，但都有成五、六十人參與呢個 Party。大家一齊食乳豬，食叉燒，燒野食，傾下計，唱下卡拉OK；之後 Irene 買咗兩隻挪威長腳蟹上嚟，Jacky（嚐囍個老闆，我學生）又帶 D 南非鮑上嚟俾我地試下，仲話如果你地去食野個個都九折。最後大家一齊倒數，玩得盡興！
如果下次搞燒野食，就要改良一下。
嗰兩隻燒豬搞左成三日，太花時間；另外嗰日其實就買咗好多野食，但就唔夠人幫手，好多食物就咁擺咗响我地另一間旅舍個雪櫃度。而家仲有大盤沙律，仲有大把有蝦呀、鱔片呀、牛肉呀（美國西冷嚟！）... 第晚我同林本源、大廈呂剛毅主席仲燒左兩個鐘，搞到我感冒，D 野食咗幾日仲有。
下次燒烤一定要揾夠人幫手，如果唔係得燒豬志偉，搞咗成兩三日。後來Party 嗰度有個端師傅上來，燒臘名廚嚟，係蓮香燒臘一把手，下次揾佢嚟幫手；又或者直頭買豬嗰陣叫佢同我地整到八成熟，攞返黎就係咁咦燒下過下癮。
話唔夠食嗰 D 人，睇吓過年嗰陣我地係咪補返個燒烤啦。祝各位新年萬事如意。
仲有，我一直都唔識用電話，所以有人打比我問野，我卻不知所措... 尤其係武林界朋友，以爲我唔接電話，唔同大家聯絡，實在抱歉抱歉！而家有人問野都係我個仔劉得泰答... 所以我希望「做到老、學到老」，今年一定要學識用電話。

On January 1, New Year’s Day, our martial arts school terrace buzzed with celebration. Despite the cool breeze, fifty to sixty friends and students gathered to enjoy roast suckling pig, char siu, and grilled dishes, with laughter, conversation, and karaoke filling the night. Irene delighted everyone with Norwegian king crabs, while Jacky — my student and owner of “Taste of Joy” — brought South African abalone and offered a 10% discount at his restaurant. As midnight neared, we counted down together, ending the evening on a joyful high.
Though the evening was enjoyable, we saw areas to improve for future barbecues. Prepping two roast pigs took 3 days, and with too few helpers. Much of the food — salad, shrimp, eel slices, and U.S. sirloin — was left forgotten in the fridge of another hostel on our floor. Another night, Chairman Lui of our Building Committee, Mr. Lam, and I grilled for 2 hours, leaving me with a cold.
Next time we must have enough helpers; otherwise, it ends up like poor Zhiwei, spending 2 or 3 days just on the roast pigs. At the party, Master Duan — a renowned roast‑meat chef and the leading hand at Lin Heung(蓮香) — joined us. Next time we could invite him to help, or even have the shop roast the pigs to about 80% so we can simply finish them off at the grill for fun.
For anyone who felt the food wasn’t enough, maybe we’ll throw another barbecue at Lunar New Year — what do you think? In the meantime, wishing everyone prosperity and joy in the year ahead.
One more note: I’ve never been good with smartphones — when friends call, I often don’t know how to respond, and some in the martial arts community may have thought I was avoiding them. My apologies! These days my son Max answers questions for me, but I believe in ‘work till old, learn till old,’ so this year I’m determined to finally learn to use the phone myself.
