「老師,麻煩你告訴我妳可以怎樣幫助我的孩子。。。」 ;
。。。(silence)」。

🐉 Baby SEED Class Update: Today we didn't read ZOG. We became Zog.

Parents, today's 40-minute story time with our 4–5 year olds was Julia Donaldson's ZOG — and I want to share how it went, because it's a good example of why I call myself an "unorthodox" teacher. 😄

Most story times go like this: teacher reads, children sit, teacher asks "What colour was the dragon?" and everyone's hand goes up (or doesn't). I do it differently. I gamify the book.

Here's what happened today:

🔥 We learnt how to breathe "fire" like the dragons in Year 2 at Dragon School
❄️ Then we switched to "ice" — cold breath, shivering shoulders
📣 Then we went out to the corridor to practise our ROAR… and discovered it echoes! (Apologies to our neighbours at One Island South 🙈)

But the real teaching isn't the roaring. It's the questions.

I ask lots of questions during a story — but not all questions are equal. Compare these:

❌ "What is Zog learning and why?" – a fact-check question. If the child gets it "wrong", reading quietly starts to feel like a test.

✅ "Which dragon do YOU want to be and why?" – suddenly the child is inside the story, seeing the world as that character.

✅ Before flipping to the next page, ask "What do you think dragons learn in Year 2 at school?" – now they're predicting, imagining, and genuinely curious about what happens on the next page.

Guessing the plot before it unfolds is one of the most important habits we build at this age. It keeps young readers actively thinking rather than passively listening — which is exactly the foundation our whole TREE System (Baby Seed ➔ Seed ➔ Sapling ➔ Tree) is built on.

👉🏻**A tip for home reading this week**: Before you turn each page, ask ONE "What do you think happens next?" — and accept every answer as a good one. There is no wrong guess. The goal is curiosity, not accuracy.

When reading is a game, children come back for more. When it's a quiz, they learn to avoid it. 📚💛

The Baby SEED kids left today asking when we'll read the next Zog book — which is exactly the outcome I want.

Drop your name card!

Waiting until primary school to fix passive reading habits is already too late.😭

Look at the photos below👇🏻.

Four pairs of eyes, totally glued to a physical storybook. No iPads in sight. No flashing screens.

Just 50 minutes of unbroken focus 👁️—including both my storytime and their own quiet reading on the beanbags.

For a long time, I felt a deep calling to start Baby SEED (Ages 3–5).

We live in an era where digital distraction enters our children’s lives earlier than ever before. Sometimes, seeing parents babysitting their kids with iPad or phones while they‘re eating (as a family), I seriously feel the ’frustration‘ inside me fighting against the ’empathy’;

😤 Frustration, because digital noise is hijacking our children's attention spans earlier than ever before, but parents are nurturing this...maybe out of ignorance—the false belief that passive screen time counts as quiet learning.🙅🏻‍♀️

🥺 Empathy, because I know the truth: most parents aren't doing it out of neglect. They may do it out of sheer exhaustion. They just need 20 minutes of peace to eat a meal, catch their breath or finish their work.

Fixing passive consumption before primary school isn't just an academic advantage. It is a necessity.

Focus is not a trait kids are born with. It is a muscle we build.

When kids learn to fall in love with physical books at age 3, everything changes:

🧠 They build real attention stamina: Learning to sit, listen, and track complex narratives without needing a screen.

📖 They escape passive consumption: Shifting from screen-glued observers to active, curious thinkers.

❤️ They build an emotional anchor: Books become a source of comfort and warmth, not an academic chore. It’s a friend! 👯‍♀️

Baby SEED is officially LAUNCHED and completely FULL.🎉🎉🎉

To protect this quality, I cap these groups at strictly 5 students so every child receives 100% of my direct energy.

🙏🏻 I am overwhelmed with gratitude for our parents' patience and trust:
💖Several families reserved their spots months ago, long before summer even began.
💖 One returning mother trusted me with her youngest child after watching her three older sons learn to read in my program over the years.

Because of the high demand, I am evaluating opening one additional micro-cohort upon request.

(P.S. Make sure to follow my Facebook and IG—I’m dropping a reel next showing the exact method I used to keep these 3-to-5-year-olds focused and reading quietly for 40 minutes!)

In an AI world where answers are free, the real skill isn‘t knowing the answer—it’s asking the right question.

AI can give your child 1,000 answers in 3 seconds.
But it will only ever be as smart as the prompt they give it.

If we teach kids to memorize facts, they become replaceable.
If we teach them question design, they become irreplaceable.
Why? Crafting a question requires deep comprehension.
To write a good question, you have to understand context, psychology, and logic.
You have to anticipate how the reader (or the AI) will process the information.

Our favorite entry point to build this inquiry mindset? Kahoot.
Instead of just playing quizzes, we turn our students into the quiz creators.

To build a tricky question about a book they just read, they must:
🧐 Analyze character motives rather than just plot points.
🕵🏻‍♂️ Design clever, believable wrong answers (which requires serious critical thinking).
🏃🏻‍♀️ Think three steps ahead of the person taking the quiz.
🤪 Be a humourous person! Fun questions engage others better!!😝

When kids learn to control the question, they take control of their own learning.
👉🏻Want your child to move from passive reader to deep critical thinker?

Givers Gain Spirit!😭🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

I love you Tam! Without you, I would have never become who I am today 😭💖🫶🏻

Smart readers don't count pages—they process ideas. 📚

Telling a child to "go read for 30 minutes" often backfires. They set a timer, scan text passively, and retain almost nothing.

Reading isn't just about finishing a book—it's an active cognitive skill.

Inside The Avid Reader Club, we teach our students the A.C.T. Reading Protocol so they can take ownership of their own learning:

🎯 Approach: Kids learn how to evaluate books before opening chapter one. By analysing blurbs, checking genre preferences, and sizing up difficulty levels, they select books they actually want to finish.

💡 Connect: Instead of mindlessly flipping pages, students ask targeted questions as they read—linking character decisions, themes, and conflicts back to their own lived experiences.

🚀 Transform: Reading becomes a long-term habit when progress is visible. Students track key insights, record takeaways, and review their reflections using our custom Reading Trackers.

When children stop treating reading like homework and start using a structured mental protocol, comprehension and focus follow naturally.

Enrollment for our regular term-time reading, writing, and cognitive development programs is officially open.

In our small-group classes, students master higher-order thinking, structure complex ideas, and even write and publish their very own physical books.

Gosh…time flies…10 years... where did the time go?!

It feels like just yesterday Tam and I were getting things started. Looking back, we’re not only still doing what we love every day, but we’ve also grown so much along the way. Over the past decade, we’ve expanded our programs and evolved how we teach to meet a much wider range of needs for our amazing students.

To celebrate this 10-year milestone, we’d love for you and your family to come celebrate with us! 🥳🎉

📅 SAVE THE DATE!
🗓 Sunday, September 6, 2026
⏰ 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Here’s a sneak peek at what we have planned:
🍷 “Wine-Down” Corner: A relaxing spot for parents to unwind and chill.
⚡ Fun Activities for Kids: Including a Pokémon card swap, arts & crafts, and more!
📚 “A Book for a Book” Swap: Time to clear off those bookshelves! Bring books your kids have outgrown and swap them for ones at their new reading level.

Check out some of our memories here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1662339157217823&type=3

Mark your calendars—we can’t wait to celebrate with all of you! ❤️

Without you all coming to support us, it wouldn't be such a success! My heartfelt THANK YOU to all my friends!

We had over 100 guests joining us, received the highest record of 934 books for swapping! So glad to see books are reused again!!

Children and adults all seemed to enjoy themselves a lot in so many ways, and this is what we, Anna & Tam want - to provide a warm, homey environment at ATEC for all!

This is just the beginning, stay tuned for more fun reading-related activities @ www.theavidreaderclub.com & www.auntietamcentre.com!!!

PS: Special thanks to Alan Lam who volunteered to be our photographer! Bravo shots of lovely memories!!

To think smart, you must ask smart questions. 🧠

Most traditional worksheets test children on surface-level recall:
❌ "Who is the main character?"
❌ "Where does the story take place?"

This conditions kids to scan pages for quick facts instead of processing the underlying themes. They learn to consume information passively rather than analysing it deeply.

Inside The Avid Reader Club, we teach our students how to formulate "Smart Questions" for their peers:

1️⃣ Not a Closed Question: A Smart Question can never be answered with a simple "Yes" or "No."
2️⃣ Not Fact-Finding: The answer cannot be found by skimming page 5 or doing a quick search online.

When you shift a child from answering basic prompts to generating high-level inquiry, reading stops being a passive chore. It becomes a workout in critical thinking, logic, and self-confidence.

Summer has ended, but active learning doesn't have to stop. Our regular term-time reading and writing classes are now open for enrollment.

👇 Comment "NEW" below and I’ll send our new school year class schedule straight to your DMs!

Summer camp

Routine,
