REMINDER: Submissions open for MOSAIC- Deadline on March 31!
As a finale to the Global Diversity Team's first year in action, we are releasing an annual magazine, Mosaic, to represent our efforts in promoting inclusion and diversity at HKU. We are seeking creative submissions on topics related to diversity (be it feminism, sexuality, mental health, etc.) to publish at the end of this semester.
We are accepting any and all ORIGINAL works, be it a short story, a poem, an essay, a drawing or a photograph. All pieces are to be related to an issue of diversity. For this academic year's submissions, we will have two themes, open to interpretation:
1) Through the Looking Glass: Think about reflection, identity, or expression.
2) Metamorphosis: Think growth, change, or turning points in your life.
To ease our editorial process and to make room for as many thoughts and expressions as possible, we've kept the word limit for written submissions to 1200 words.
If you are sending a photograph or drawing, attach an explanatory caption up to 100 words.
For all submissions, please follow with a brief description on how you believe it fits one or both of the themes, as well as our umbrella theme: diversity.
Deadline for submissions: March 31, 2018
Send over your submissions to [email protected] in a Word document, with your full name and major. Please note that all submissions will be subject to an editorial review and will be screened and proofread before publication.
For any queries, please contact us on the same email.
So, pick up your tools and let your thoughts flow, and we hope to hear from you soon!
Cheers,
The Global Diversity Team at HKU Lap-Chee College

(TAG YOURSELF)
The Global Diversity Team hosted its first Slam & Jam Night on Friday, 17th November, 2017. Through powerful poetry performances and moving music, we broke the silence around topics such as living with depression and anxiety, the frustrations of being in an inter-racial relationship, grappling with US politics as a millenial, the grief that comes with loss and bereavement, and accepting your own sexuality.
We would like to thank all the performers for the poems and music: be it heartbreaking or humorous, poignant or provoking. Thank you to the core organisers, Ruhi Soni, Nessa Wong, Jane Chen, Sylvia Mah and Yilin Wang. We would also like to extend a massive shoutout to HKU’s CAES department for the venue, equipment and support. Last but not least, thank you to the audience who chose to spend their Friday night breaking the silence and joining the conversation.

A great guiding principle. We should celebrate diversity and promote equality. If you do not know about an issue, learn about it but do not exclude and do not wrongly conclude. Happy weekend everyone.
Companies should support their staff. Like and share if you agree!
