香港科技大學作為一所香港嘅大學，卻未肩負起推廣香港人日常所用之粵語嘅重任，令校園內之外地學生亦普遍不諳粵語。一班對科大粵語校策有所不滿之學生繼而成立「科大粵語 HKUST Cantonese」，以此：
1. 要求校方為非粵語背景學生設立粵語學分課程；
2. 要求校方設立符合「中文傳意」核心課程要求之粵語學分課程；
3. 督促身為香港高等學府之校方肩負傳承粵語及香港文化之責任；
4. 提供入門語言學並粵語學習資源；
5. 藉本地新聞介紹香港及粵語文化。

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is a university in Hong Kong. However, HKUST does not take a responsibility to promote Cantonese, the Hongkongese native language; most of the foreign students in the school consequently do not speak Cantonese. Disappointed by the school policies on Cantonese, a group of local students come together to found "科大粵語 HKUST Cantonese" to:
1. demand credit-bearing Cantonese courses for non-Cantonese language background students;
2. demand credit-bearing Cantonese courses that fulfills the "Chinese Communication" common core requirement;
3. urge HKUST, as a university in Hong Kong, to promote Cantonese and thus the Hong Kong culture;
4. offer amateur linguistics and Cantonese learning resources;
