10,000+ platform views on Umeed Connect.

When we launched Umeed Connect, we were not chasing numbers. We were trying to build something that the diverse communities of Hong Kong actually needed. A platform that listens, guides and meets people in the language they speak at home.

10,000 views means 10,000 moments of someone finding a resource, reading a story that reflected their own, asking Chiri a question, or following a Pathway when they did not know where to start.

To everyone who has visited, shared, contributed and trusted us with your stories, thank you. This milestone belongs to the community that built it with us.

We are just getting started.

“Chiri makes conversations intuitive, simple and inclusive. It is not just another chatbot, it is a guide who helps everyone feel seen and speaks their language.”

Bibi Hajirah, Co-Founder of Umeed Limited, on why Chiri exists.

Chiri (meaning “bird”) is your community assistant on Umeed Connect. Find resources, events and pathways through chat or voice, in the language you actually speak at home.

Available in 8 languages including Hindi, Urdu, Bangla, Bahasa, Nepali, Tagalog and Punjabi.

Built for the ethnically diverse communities of Hong Kong who have waited far too long for tech that listens.

Our co-founder recently shared a powerful message in the SCMP! 🗞️

Hong Kong doesn’t need to look abroad for solutions to language barriers. The local community is already building them. We created Umeed Connect to ensure that every resident, regardless of the language they speak can access the services and information they deserve.

It’s time to bridge the gap between technology and the grass-roots community. 🤝

Sharing a few milestones Umeed Connect has crossed over the past few months!

Recently, the Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC) released its study on digital inclusion for Hong Kong’s 620,000 diverse race residents.

The headline: digital adoption is high (99% own smartphones, 72% use iAM Smart), but the platforms aren’t built for them.

Only 18% are fluent in Chinese. Yet most government apps only work in Chinese and English. Walk-in and phone bookings still outnumber app bookings. Older users, particularly women, face significant barriers. The EOC’s recommendation: AI-powered multilingual support, simpler registration, and involving these communities in the design process.

This is exactly what Umeed Connect was built to do.

Our platform delivers community resources like jobs, education, healthcare pathways, legal guidance (coming soon!), government services, in 8 major languages: English, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Nepali, Bengali, Indonesian, and Tagalog. With AI-powered translations. No complex registration. WhatsApp integration, because 83.5% of ethnically diverse individuals in Hong Kong already use it daily.

We didn’t wait for the recommendation. We built it.

But we’re one small team. The EOC is right that this requires coordination across government, NGOs, tech developers and communities. We welcome that conversation.
