2026年9月19日為第四屆香港大專院校聯校「GenAI Hackathon for SDGs」的啟動日，今屆反應非常熱烈，單是中大已有超過 140 位同學報名參賽！
​
這個比賽不但可讓同學實踐作學，運用生成式AI探索可持續發展目標議題的解決方案，更為各校學生提供一個聚首一堂、結識志同道合夥伴的平台 🤝
​
預祝各位中大同學在比賽中勇創佳績、豐富所學，為可持續發展出一分力 🌏

September 19, 2026 marked the Launch Day for the 4th Inter-University ‘GenAI Hackathon for SDGs’. The response this year was overwhelming, with over 140 CUHK students registering for the challenge!

Beyond applying academic knowledge to explore GenAI solutions for SDG-related issues, the Hackathon provides a platform for students across universities to connect and collaborate with like-minded peers 🤝
​
We wish all CUHK participants great success in pushing creative boundaries, deepening their learning and contributing to sustainable development 🌏

| 🌱 CU303 社區服務計劃 義工活動回顧 |
​
CU303 社區服務計劃早前帶領一班由中大同事及同學組成的義工隊，參與由東華三院樂盈外展專職醫療服務主辦的義工活動。義工們陪同來自兩間安老院舍的長者👵👴參觀博物館，在導賞員帶領下認識香港飲食文化與歷史，並透過輕鬆交流共度愉快的午膳時光🍽️
​
是次活動不僅為長者提供外出機會，更促進跨代交流與社會共融，讓參加者加深對長者身心健康及社會參與重要性的認識，共同推動聯合國可持續發展目標（SDG）3「良好健康與福祉」，支持健康老齡化及提升社區福祉。
​
作為致力推動可持續發展的大學🎓 中大一直鼓勵師生透過社區參與回應社會需要，將關愛❤️ 包容🤗 及可持續發展理念化為行動，為社區創造正面影響。

| 🌱 CU303•Care & Unite Programme Volunteer Service Recap|
​
The CU303•Care & Unite Programme recently brought together CUHK staff and students for a volunteer activity organized by TWGHs Lok Ying Outreach Allied Health Service. The volunteers accompanied elderly residents 👵👴 from two residential care homes on a museum visit, where they explored Hong Kong’s food culture and history through a guided tour and enjoyed a delightful lunch together 🍽️
​
More than just an outing, the activity gave older adults valuable opportunities to connect with the community, fostered intergenerational exchange, and promoted social inclusion. Participants also gained a deeper understanding of the importance of elderly wellbeing and social participation. Together, we supported United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 — ‘Good Health and Well-being’ by encouraging healthy ageing and enhancing community wellbeing.

As a university committed to sustainable development 🎓 CUHK encourages staff and students to respond to societal needs through active community engagement by translating the values of care ❤️ inclusion 🤗 and sustainability into action, creating positive social impact in the community.

Successful candidates will attend COP31 for at least four days, with guidance from Professor Amos Tai of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences and Professor Yuan Xu of the Department of Geography and Resource Management. Participants will have the chance to connect with global sustainability experts, gain exposure to international climate negotiations, and explore emerging solutions to climate challenges 💡

| ☀️🌦️中大永續在線（八）「風烏」AI天氣預測系統大幅提升氣象預報的準確程度 🌧️⛈️|
​
中大信息工程學系歐陽萬里教授與團隊開發了一套由AI驅動的氣象全方位預報系统「風烏」，透過分析龐大的氣象資料，「風烏」提供比許多傳統和人工智能系統更快速和更準確的預報 🌨️❄️
​
「風烏」已經成功預測了熱帶氣旋的路徑，並幫助可再生能源行業提升風力和太陽能發電效率。這套AI系統展現中大致力推動可持續創新，並積極將科研成果轉化為實際應用，亦回應聯合國可持續發展目標(SDGs)︰
​
• SDG 7（經濟適用的清潔能源）— 提高全球能源結構中可再生能源的比例 🏭
• SDG 11（可持續城市及社區）— 減少天災的負面影響

| ☀️🌦️ CUHK Sustainability in Action (8) FengWu AI Model Brings New Levels of Accuracy to Weather Forecasting 🌧️⛈️|
​
An AI-powered weather forecasting model, FengWu, was developed by Professor Ouyang Wanli of the Department of Information Engineering and his team. By analyzing massive amounts of meteorological data, FengWu delivers faster and more accurate forecasts than many traditional and AI-based systems 🌨️❄️
​
FengWu has successfully predicted the paths of tropical cyclones and is helping the renewable energy sector optimize wind and solar power generation. This model highlights CUHK’s commitment to advancing sustainable innovation and translating research into impactful applications. It contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular:

• SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) —
increasing the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix 🏭
• ​ SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) — reducing the adverse effects of natural disasters

The Green Office Programme (GO!) 🌱 has been encouraging CUHK colleagues to work together since its launch in 2012, integrating sustainability into daily office operations 🏢 and promoting a culture of sustainability across campus.

We are thrilled to share that for three consecutive years (2023–2025), over 90 offices have been recognized as 'Competent Green Offices' 🎖️ The programme also features Merit, Gold, Platinum, and various category awards to commend departments for their outstanding performance in driving sustainability and a green workplace culture 🌟
