I’d rather have a good driver that’s physically average, than an average driver who’s physically strong.
As S&C coaches, we often lose sight of what truly matters — their sport.
The job of a race car driver is to drive as well as they can. At the end of the day, drive performance over race weekend is the litmus test. When the lights go out, only one thing matters.
The best way to get better at riding a bike is to practice riding a bike. The best way to improve your driving is to spend time in the car.
Our role as S&C coaches is therefore to provide drivers with the physical capacity and tolerance to drive repeatedly at a high level, be it in a simulation, test day, or race weekend.
A physically capable driver is able to tolerate more drives and recover faster between drives. This allows them to spend more time in the car and build a larger bank of experiences without burning out.
In this sense, S&C complements driving by supporting it, not dominating it.
When time and energy is limited, S&C has to take a backseat to driving. If a driver has 2-3x days between races, the priority should be recovery, not S&C. A last minute sim prep takes precedence over a gym session if that’s what’s needed to prepare for the race.
As a motorsport S&C coach, drive performance has to constantly be at the forefront of all decision-making. You can’t win a race if you can’t drive.
Keep the main goal, the main goal.

Load management for motorsport starts with planning and preparation.
While there will always be last minute changes, an overview of the race season allows us to identify hot periods for racing, and manage & adapt with efficiency.
Some questions to consider when planning your 2025 race season:
• What are your high-stakes races and where do they sit across the year?
• Are there congested periods involving huge amounts of back-to-back racing or travelling?
• Are there key training windows to build-on or maintain existing physical qualities?
• Is racing load, training load, and travel stress balanced out with enough recovery opportunities?
The aim here is to maximize race performance without compromising physical development.

We have witnessed some incredible feats this quarter. trekking and penguining 250km across the Antarctic Desert, numerous Hyrox first-time completions, podiums, and PRs from our Pinnacle Community, taking the Formula 4 Trophy, and winning the Gulf 12 Hours race at Abu Dhabi.
To add to the list, one man decided to compete with the entire Formula 1 grid, and he’s only gone and won it.
set himself a challenge at the start of the year. He set out to swim the entire distance of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix — a monumental distance of 306.2km — before the drivers cross the finish line on 8th December 2024. To put that into context, that’s roughly the width of Singapore, and 6180x lengths of a 50-meter pool!
Not only has he completed it in due time, he’s also surpassed his fundraising target of 24,000HK$, raising a total of 30,641HK$ for charity. He Planned his swims, Pursued his distances, and Performed in his challenge. Best thing is, Raj is already onto the next one.
