The 2025 Korean CSR/ESG/PR Professional Workshop & Conference, co-hosted by the CUHK CSRCom & Sustainability Hub and the Korean Academic Society for Public Relations (KASPR), successfully concluded on 22 August in Seoul. Over 170 attendees, from academia, experts, and practitioners, attended the conference, which focused on the current status and challenges of corporate social responsibility (CSR), CSA (political and social stance), and ESG (environmental, social, and governance) management. In particular, the CSR and ESG practices of major Korean companies, such as POSCO, Kakao, and YG Entertainment, were showcased in on-site sessions.
Participants praised POSCO's community coexistence, Kakaoโs technology-based CSR, and YGโs eco-friendly performances as concrete models for creating social value and building brand trust. Kakao introduced its educational programmes targeting small business owners, seniors, and youth under โdigital inclusionโ, presenting a CSR model that leverages technological capabilities to address social issues. YG Entertainment discussed ESG challenges in the performance industry and introduced a strategy to secure the global competitiveness of K-content through eco-friendly performances.
Professor Sora Kim, director of the CUHK CSRCom & Sustainability Hub, stated in her keynote speech, โCompanies can no longer remain silent on social issuesโ. She presented CSR and CSA as strategies for building stable trust and strengthening brand identity. She also emphasized, โBoth strategies can gain social trust based on sincerity, transparency, and listening.โ The conference confirmed that sustainability and global competitiveness should be secured through ESG transformation. A journey to a more responsible and sustainable future will continue! ๐
