The Department held its annual Whole-day event on 28 April 2026. The day began with a Library Workshop conducted by Mr. Christopher Chan, University Librarian, who introduced a wide range of research tools and databases that available through the Library. Following the workshop, students and faculty members gathered for the Faculty–Student Consultative Meeting and Academic Advising Session. We are grateful for the thoughtful questions and constructive feedback shared by students, which will contribute to the continued enhancement of our teaching and learning environment. During the Honours Project Briefing Session, faculty members introduced their research areas, suggestions and expectations for the project. The event concluded with a sharing session by representatives of the History Alumni Association, who connected with students by sharing their career journeys and professional experiences.

The 2026 Postgraduate Research Fora brought together 12 postgraduate students to present their ongoing research. The event was held over two days, on 23 and 30 April, and were coordinated by Prof. Noriaki Hoshino, Prof. Ka-chai Tam, Prof. Patricia Sauthoff, and Prof. Fong Fong Chen. Students presented on a wide range of topics, reflecting the diversity of research within the Department. Presentations was followed by thoughtful feedback and stimulating discussion from faculty members and peers.

The 36th lecture of the Chang Chuen Memorial Public Lecture Series was held on 21 April 2026. We were honoured to have Dr. Shiuon Chu, Associate Research Fellow, Institute of Modern History, Academia Sinica, who delivered a lecture on Shuyuan keyi in the late nineteenth century to an engaged audience of students, colleagues, and members of the public. The lecture was chaired by Prof. Chi-man Kwong and featured insightful discussion.

Established in 2001, with its inaugural lecture held in 2004, the Chang Chuen Memorial Public Lecture Series seeks to commemorate Prof. Chang’s enduring contributions to the Department and to the wider academic community. The event was made possible through the generous support of the late Prof. Chang Chuen’s family, as well as his students and colleagues.

在昨日(5月4日)HK ArcGIS的發佈典禮中,歷史系系主任鄺智文教授發表了利用ArcGIS處理歷史空間資料"Handling Hong Kong’s Historical Spatial Data with ArcGIS"的分享。我們感謝Esri China (Hong Kong)多年來對我們空間史課堂的支持,並提供Esri China (Hong Kong) Spatial History Course Prize予該課程表現優秀的同學。

At the HK ArcGIS launch ceremony yesterday (May 4), Professor Kwong Chi Man, Chair of the Department of History, delivered a talk on using ArcGIS to handle historical spatial data, titled “Handling Hong Kong’s Historical Spatial Data with ArcGIS.” We would like to thank Esri China (Hong Kong) for its long-standing support for our Spatial History course, and we are also grateful to Esri China (Hong Kong) for providing the Spatial History Course Prize to students who performed exceptionally well in the course.

Congratulations to our Year 3 student, Lo Tsz Ching, on being awarded Outstanding Inclusion Student Ambassador! The award was presented by Prof. Amy Lee, Director of the Office of Student Affairs. Dr. Kwok Kam Chau also attended the Inclusive Market Kick-off Ceremony as the Department’s representative to celebrate her achievement.

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences held an award presentation ceremony on 16 April 2026 to recognize this year’s recipients of Faculty-level scholarships. Six History majors were honoured for their outstanding academic achievements and exchange experiences. Warmest congratulations to all awardees!
