The Ethos Podcast ๐๏ธ
Dr Leong Che Hung | Innovations in Urology, Healthcare Reforms, Life Lessons
The guest for this episode is Dr Leong Che Hung, an influential surgeon, politician, and public servant specialising in urology. He was actively involved in many respectable roles throughout his career, including member of the Legislative Council, chairman of the Hospital Authority, non-official member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong, and chairman of the Council of the University of Hong Kong. Later in his career, Dr Leong also established the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, the Hong Kong Kidney Foundation, and the International Drug Abuse Treatment Foundation, where he studied the efficacy of Traditional Chinese Medicine in treating addiction.
What was Dr Leongโs motivation to pursue medicine and public service? How did Dr Leong spearhead contributions in the field of urology (Hong Kongโs first kidney transplant, using the stomach for bladder reconstruction)? What advice would Dr Leong offer to medical students to find balance between ambition, service, and personal growth? In this episode, Dr Leong answers all your burning questions, covering topics such as:
๐ฆWhy service and rationality matter more than personal ambition in medicine
๐ฆHow innovation and humility shaped Hong Kongโs healthcare breakthroughs
๐ฆWhen to prioritise society over self: Experiences from a lifetime in public service
๐ฆThe paradox of success: Balancing professional achievement with personal growth
๐ฆHow to navigate the challenges of policy, tradition, and change in healthcare
The host for this episode is Hoi Kiu Wong, former Head of Design for Ethos.

Looking back to a sunny January day when we set out for another Hiking with Ethos outing on Lantau Island.๐ณ
We were joined by Dr. Harmony To, a critical care specialist and MSF humanitarian (); Dr. Zohar Lederman from , an emergency physician and bioethics expert (along with his dog Gulliver); and Eric Wong and Jamie Lin from healthcare team.
The path from Mui Wo to Pui O Beach along Lantau Trail was simple and sereneโa quiet 8km with a picnic break halfway and the sea stretching out before us at the end.
Grateful to our guests, students, and team for sharing the day. Already looking forward to the next one in late Marchโ nothing like a good trail to clear the mind and to make new friends.

As these tools become increasingly sophisticated, it's crucial for lawmakers to ensure they remain affordable and widely available, preventing monopolization by tech companies.
