Chronic pain and the Neuroimmune system🧠
Why do we care❓
⚠️the immune system carries the imprint of early-life inflammatory events:
The pain system is modulated by neuroimmune and neuroendocrine mechanisms from embryonic development throughout life.
How does it affect our brain and body❓
⚠️ peripheral chronic inflammation may become chronic within the CNS via changes in the central immune responses
What does it really affect❓
⚠️ the immune system continues to affect the function of the nervous system in a manner that drives pain sensitivity, by inducing functional changes.
📖Several studies have shown that experimental immune activation increases pain sensitivity in humans. Deep (muscular and visceral) pain is more readily affected than superficial (cutaneous and mechanical) pain.
