Cooking With Young Children
Here's another great quote which also applies to parents....
"“The more you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
~ Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
This week's quote:
“We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education.”
~ Martin Luther King

Here's a quote which you'll love:
“Too often we give children answers to remember rather than problems to solve.”
- Roger Lewin
Unfortunately, our local school system adopts this approach to a very large extent. That is why this is a very important reminder that parents need to help their children develop problem solving skills so that they can start learning to think and make decisions on their own from an early age.
Here's another quote of the week...
“Parents need to fill a child’s bucket of self-esteem so high that the rest of the world can’t poke enough holes to drain it dry.”
- Alvin Price
This quote came in really handy today when my older son came home from school complaining that a friend of his laughed at a painting he did and said that it wasn't nice. As his grandparents were around when he related this story to us, they quickly advised him to challenge the other boy to a painting competition. I just wanted to go to school to give that boy a good talking to (like most over-protective mothers would). However, I quickly remembered about an article I read which said that the best way to help a child to cope with a cruel world is to lend him a listening ear. And sometimes, that's all parents need to do! This quote reminds us as parents, that aside from all the academic and cultural training that we give to our children, we must not overlook the importance of developing their emotional well being which contributes to 'resilience', the secret recipe to helping people cope with adversity.
