The talk on “Get Your Tongue Around Spoken English,” hosted by DPA and given by Dr. Danny Leung on 22 September, drew an audience of more than 70, some of whom were former students, current school teachers and secondary school students who came all the way from Aberdeen!
DPA also presented Chloe Cheung, Pan Wai Ching, Sherry Shek and Gabrielle Tsui the “Best Short Story” prize. Their short fiction was selected from the “Reading and Writing Short Stories” course that used to be taught by Professor David Parker. The prize aims at continuing Professor Parker’s passion for creative writing.

【Read For Love】
As we kick off 2017, many of us have said “good riddance!” to 2016. It was a year in which we continued to witness a worrying trend of leaders and public figures around the world playing on racial and sectarian fears, fanning prejudice against minorities and the disadvantaged and extolling authoritarianism.
With this in mind, PEN Hong Kong is holding a “Read for Love” event on January 20th and here at CUHK, a group of book lovers will join in by holding our own Read for Love event on campus. The idea is to gather readers to listen to and read chosen passages from literature that have deepened their empathy, understanding and love for others, as well as selections on the theme of people living under repressive regimes and governments.
We believe good literature deepens and expands our understanding of others, and of ourselves. So, please bring your books, we hope to see you on January 20th!
Date: January 20th 2017 (Friday)
Time: 4pm – 5pm
Venue: Lawn next to the Goddess of Democracy

With the overwhelming support from faculty members, English majors and alumni, David Parker Alliance (DPA) kicked off blissfully on 10 Sept 2016 at CUHK.
Fully embracing Professor David Parker's spirit of "finding the good, articulating the good and bringing out the good", DPA has invited Prof. Freedom Leung, Psychology Department, CUHK, to share his well-researched tips for maintaining mental health through Zen-meditation.
Zen-meditation is recognised as mindfulness training. It aims at enhancing one's physical and emotional well-being. During the 40-minute talk, Professor Leung has encouraged the audience to fully indulge into mindfulness through three major types of practice, namely (1) breath-aided mindfulness, (2) sensation-aided mindfulness and (3) imagination-based mindfulness.
On top of soul-soothing Zen-meditation practice, all the guests attending DPA Kick-off have captured the first glimpse of DPA's 2016-17 Events Calendar, covering a basketful of life sharing sessions, thematic workshops and social networking activities.
