Get Repost App • Rika Smith I grew up swimming competitively—and I was FAST. 🏊🏻‍♀️💨

My childhood plan was a little ambitious:

🥇 Olympic gold
📸 Model
🎬 Act
🎤 Sing
✍🏼 Become a famous writer

Then I turned 12 and discovered a major problem…

I was supposed to grow to 5’7”.

I stopped at 4’11½”. 😂

And just like that, my height went from an advantage to a disadvantage.

Olympics? Yeah… probably not. 😂

Fast-forward 40-something years… and somehow I ended up in financial services.

Swimming and finance have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

Except I apparently packed persistence, discipline, focus, patience, resilience, and the ability to keep doing something I don’t feel like doing into my swim bag.

Who knew that little girl in the pool was basically training for my future career? 😂

Funny how life works.

Why do people who swim often become successful in everything they do?

Because swimming is not just about technique — it’s about learning to manage yourself: your fears, doubts, and discomfort.

It’s discipline. Showing up early, getting into the water even when you don’t feel like it, and continuing through challenges.

Each swim teaches control, patience, and resilience. Over time, it builds not just strong swimmers, but strong mindsets.

That’s why swimming is never just a hobby.
It’s a training ground for character.

Fewer than 0.05% of my students will become professional athletes! And that was never the point… 🏊♀️

Sports shape the character they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

Discipline, focus, and responsibility aren’t taught through speeches; they are taught through practice week in, week out, in the pool 💙

If you have a child, this goes far beyond just swimming well or becoming an athlete, and I think you understand that now, too, right?

You already know the decision that needs to be made for your child’s sake! 🎯
