Virtual Reality for Teaching, Learning and Assessment (Part II) (Apr 2022) 15/03/2022

With the increasing digitisation of classrooms, there is constant interest to adopt emergent technologies into teaching and learning. Virtual reality (VR) is one of the new technologies that piqued the interest of educators around the world with the promise to create new learning experiences. It is seen as a valuable tool to create immersive environments and provide a student-centered learning experience through interactions.

While the benefits of AR are apparent, widespread adoption of this technology remains a work in progress. There are many practical issues and concerns yet to be addressed, such as ease of use, scalability and comparative effectiveness. As such, steps taken by pioneers in adopting VR would be insightful for mindful educators.

In this webinar we have invited professional educators from different institutions to share their experience in using VR technology in their classes. In particular, our guest speakers will cover the following topics:

– Practical VR & AR in studio-based learning for architectural design
– Using web-based VR for crime scene investigation studies
– Large-scale VR adoption in medical anatomy classes

– UGC Special Grant for Strategic Development of Virtual Teaching and Learning – Inter-institutional Collaborative Activities Projects
– IEEE Education Week

Panel Discussion on “Exploring the Place for Micro-credentials in Hong Kong”

REGISTER - https://www.ln.edu.hk/sys/regbuilder/registration/credentials_261121

Time/Venue: 26 November 2021 (Friday) at 11:00am–12:00nn (HK TIME), via Zoom

The idea of Micro-Credentialing relates to offering flexible and extended learning pathways for academic staff and students and creates an ongoing learning partnership with the institution both before and during UG study, as well as across PG study and beyond.

“In skills, education and training policy around the world, micro-credentials are increasingly being positioned as a solution to a wide range of economic, labour market, and social challenges. Broadly defined, they are stackable, industry-aligned short units of learning designed to help individuals form specific skills and signal those skills to employers”.
REFERENCE OCED - https://www.oecd-forum.org/posts/micro-credentials-the-new-frontier-of-adult-education-and-training

The growing use of micro-credentials is an outcome of the changing nature of the labour market and of growing uncertainty as to what work will look like in the future. Fewer ‘jobs for life’ now exist, and employers demand flexibility and quick reactions to changing circumstances. Micro-credentials are particularly useful as a response to the changing education and economic realities due to Covid-19. In this situation, as they allow for tailored, quick and accessible skills (re)development. This panel will explore the place for micro-credentialing in Hong Kong from various perspectives.

Are you always caught in a dilemma or at a loss when facing a plethora of choices? No worries, making decisions has never been easier with Recommender Systems (RS)!

With the rise of artificial intelligence development, RS have been evolving rapidly in recent years. Through users’ browsing patterns, searches, and preferences, RS use algorithms to do decision-making, and hence recommend items to users.

Applying RS in education can benefit students in academic choices, learning activities, learning resources, academic performance, and vocational and educational training. KEEP has incorporated RS into KEEP Moodle and KEEP edX. Stay tuned for more information next week!
