🎉 The Department of Mathematics organized the 2026 Taiwan–Hong Kong Workshop on Applied Mathematics and Related Areas, jointly with CUHK and Tamkang U, from 23–25 May 2026. The event brought together academics and students for exciting research discussions and cultural adventures! 🌏✨ From machine learning 🤖 to exploring Taiwan’s night markets 🥢🛍️ and scenic spots 🏞️, participants gained new knowledge 📚 and unforgettable experiences 😍.

🎓 22 HKBU students bridged classrooms & careers via GCAP3225! Taught 44 teens from SKH Tsang Shiu Tim & TWGHs Fung Wong Fung Ting College in 7 workshops on encryption/blockchain/binary systems.

🔍 Unique: HKBU students & teens visited HKSTP + Microsoft Cyberport together—building rapport to tailor sessions.

💡 Teens gained tech exposure; HKBU students honed teaching skills & saw real-world applications at Microsoft. A model for linking academics, community & careers!

PhD students Mr. CHAN Ting Fung & Ms. MENG Xiao had the opportunity to undertake overseas attachments at the renowned Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) in Berlin, Germany from Feb to Mar 2026🌍! From cutting-edge seminars🧑‍🏫 to international collaborations🤝, they expanded their research skills and explored Berlin’s culture🏛️. Special thanks to Prof. Michael Hintermüller and Dr. Amal Alphonse at WIAS for their guidance and support!🌟

🎉 Congratulations to Prof. Michael Ng on receiving the Wu Wenjun Artificial Intelligence Science and Technology Award, presented by the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence! 🏆 His pioneering research in intelligent healthcare bridges mathematics and data science, driving innovation in AI. 🌏 The Department of Mathematics had the pleasure of hosting two visiting research students from Shanxi University, Ms. Wang Peiyao and Mr. Wang Xi, from Oct 2025 to Apr 2026. Under Prof. Xu Yi Da’s guidance, they enjoyed a fruitful stay filled with research achievements, academic exchange, and cultural growth. Their positive experiences at HKBU showcase the impact of global collaboration and the university’s vibrant, supportive learning environment. 👏📚

🎉 Congratulations to Prof. Tong Tiejun for winning the Second-Class Scientific and Technological Advancement Award under the 2025 Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Awards! 🏆👏

On 9 January, over 100 Form 3 students from CCC Kei San Secondary School visited HKBU for an exciting afternoon of science exploration! 🔬 The fun started with a talk on Math and Romance by Dr. Amy Pang of the Department of Mathematics 🔣💕, then students split into groups to tour different laboratories. At the Department of Physics, Dr. Martin Ma demonstrated how smart technology such as the Internet of Things improves our daily life. 📱⌚ Whilst the Departments of Biology and Chemistry showcased their aquarium, greenhouse, biotechnology instruments, and teaching lab. 🌱🐟 The students increased their interest in science through these activities, and many wished the visit could be longer!

🎉Congratulations to our undergraduates for their Outstanding Academic Performance Awards! 🏆13 math majors in years 3 and 4 were recognised for their achievements in the academic year 24/25. They received their certificates from Associate Programme Director Dr. Mark Lau. The department celebrates your good work! 👏
