🎉The Department of Mathematics is pleased to share that four PhD students—Mr CHAN Ting Fung, Ms LI Congcong, Mr TANG Cheng, and Mr WANG Chao—had papers selected for oral and poster presentations at the International Conference on Scientific Computing and Differential Equations, held in Edinburgh, UK, from 29 June to 3 July 2026!🌍👏 Topics included PDEs, regression, topology optimization, and preconditioning. It was an unforgettable experience for the students, connecting with global experts and broadening academic horizons!💡📚

🎉Congrats to two MATH scholars, Prof Michael Ng & Prof Tong Tiejun, who have secured funding for joint projects with BNBU under the 2nd cohort of the Guangdong and Hong Kong Universities “1+1+1” Joint Research Collaboration Scheme!👏 Their research will advance deep learning in image problems🖼️ & AI-driven medical methods🧠💉. A huge milestone for the Department of Mathematics and also future collaborations with BNBU! 🌟

The Department of Mathematics was thrilled to host BNBU staff and students on 11 Jun 2026!
The visit began with welcome remarks by the Dean on the Faculty’s vision and mission, and research postgraduate opportunities in our Department📚, followed by a campus tour to showcase HKBU’s facilities🏫
The day wrapped up with a lunch gathering where staff and students of HKBU and BNBU connected over great conversations and delicious food🍽️🤝

🎉 The Department of Mathematics organized the 2026 Taiwan–Hong Kong Workshop on Applied Mathematics and Related Areas, jointly with CUHK and Tamkang U, from 23–25 May 2026. The event brought together academics and students for exciting research discussions and cultural adventures! 🌏✨ From machine learning 🤖 to exploring Taiwan’s night markets 🥢🛍️ and scenic spots 🏞️, participants gained new knowledge 📚 and unforgettable experiences 😍.

🎓 22 HKBU students bridged classrooms & careers via GCAP3225! Taught 44 teens from SKH Tsang Shiu Tim & TWGHs Fung Wong Fung Ting College in 7 workshops on encryption/blockchain/binary systems.
🔍 Unique: HKBU students & teens visited HKSTP + Microsoft Cyberport together—building rapport to tailor sessions.
💡 Teens gained tech exposure; HKBU students honed teaching skills & saw real-world applications at Microsoft. A model for linking academics, community & careers!

PhD students Mr. CHAN Ting Fung & Ms. MENG Xiao had the opportunity to undertake overseas attachments at the renowned Weierstrass Institute for Applied Analysis and Stochastics (WIAS) in Berlin, Germany from Feb to Mar 2026🌍! From cutting-edge seminars🧑🏫 to international collaborations🤝, they expanded their research skills and explored Berlin’s culture🏛️. Special thanks to Prof. Michael Hintermüller and Dr. Amal Alphonse at WIAS for their guidance and support!🌟
