終於，終於，終於，真正的實體課終於復常了。🥰🥰🥰

疫情和移民潮的影響下，我現場的升小面試英文班難以營運，因為我堅持不做Zoom，幸好有少量學生支持。

重要的是，老公所擅長的DSE和中學英文做得越來越好，同學成績彪炳，有化腐朽為神奇的力量。雖然在疫情下同學在學校毫無幫助之下，都可以為學生做出很好的成績。

感謝所有家長和同學的支持。神的帶領和幫助下，讓我們有勇氣和智慧堅持自己的教學理念，盡力幫助每一位學生。✝️✝️✝️

The Art of Apologising

Not trying to make light of the matter but everything from facial expression to bowing to the language used was carefully crafted. The following line stood out in particular as I still can not come ip with an appropriately English-sounding translation after all these years.

In this city of yes-men and women, to find someone who is staying so true to his beliefs about how children should be brought up is like a breath of fresh air in a hot air chamber. As educators, we should look ourselves in the mirror and ask if we are doing our jobs for the sake of our students or our own benefits.

The city should be glad to have Mabo.

So glad to be a part of this study group in HK. It was my 4th time attending the meetings and the turnout is getting bigger every time. Hope to continue to be a part of the push towards this child-centred approach 🌹

So glad I’ve been invited to take part in curriculum design for a robotics/stem program for special rights students for several local HK special schools. The program is funded by HKJC and jointly designed by Preface and YMCA. If the students get job placement bcoz of this program, I’d be so honoured.

Pomodoro technique

Here’s a student on his fourth or fifth pomodoro🍅 and he seems really determined in pinning down his AS Maths Statistics. (I must admit that I sometimes throw in the towel after a couple of them😭) This guy means business💪🏼💪🏼

The pomodoro technique focuses on making progress on your work during the 25 minutes in each 🍅, as opposed to the product (result). Follow that up with a 5-minute break, (and you can go crazy scrolling your phone) and another 🍅. Repeat this 3 more times and you can take a slightly longer break.

It has worked well for me, keeping me focused on one thing at a time. I certainly hope to introduce it to more of my students.

Challenged the two to the most challenging P3 PartA paper in recent memory. The amount of writing required for some of the tasks is excessive I feel but a good mock tests for these guys nonetheless. Keep them honest and hopefully hungry for better showing.

Time and again, common sense and exposure to real-life experiences became factors as evidenced in 1) ”sedentary activity” 2) “scavenger hunt” I told them where I learned the word sedentary: my physiotherapist’s clinic 😭

If only more students had these experiences.

多巴胺循環

跟學生解卷時遇到這段落，決心要post，今天終還債。找到一幅圖解釋何謂dopamine loop，正如英文有句説話 A picture is worth a thousand words，下次碌手機停唔到時就知道個腦發生緊什麽事

Dopamine is closely connected to our motivational drive. According to the behavioural psychologist Susan Weinschenk, dopamine ‘propels you to take action’. The chemical, produced in the brain, causes us to seek out rewards. And when a particular behaviour earns us a reward, our brains release even more dopamine. This, in turn, encourages us to seek out further rewards. Weinschenk describes this as the 15 dopamine loop.
