The math is simple. By income, you're already in the world's top 1%. The only question left is how to make that money count.

Before you give, effective donors ask just three things:

Does this charity actually work? Ask to see the evidence.
How much does it cost to do good here? Look at how far each dollar goes.
Would this work get funded without me? Look for the gap others overlook.
The answers already exist. To start giving, open an account on ; to find the strong ones, read ; to keep it going, lean on .

Save this post, and send it to anyone who has ever said, "I want to give but I don't know which charity is good." Follow .hongkong for more.

想開始捐,上 GiveWise 開個捐贈戶口;想知捐邊間,睇 GiveWell;想捐得持久,交俾 Giving What We Can。

Save 低呢個 post。見到有人問「我想捐錢但係唔知邊間好」,send 俾佢。想知多啲,follow 埋 .hongkong。

You earn a normal Hong Kong salary. Globally, that might make you one of the rich ones.

Most of us measure our lives against the people right next to us. The rent, the school fees, the colleague who just upgraded their car. Against that, almost no one feels wealthy.

Zoom out to the whole world and the picture shifts. A mid-career salary in Hong Kong can place you in roughly the richest 1 to 3 percent of people alive today. Not because you feel rich, but because most of the planet earns far, far less.

Here is the part that matters: this isn't a guilt trip. It's a fact about leverage. Income that feels ordinary here can stretch remarkably far somewhere else. Knowing where you actually stand is a starting point, not a verdict on anything you have done before.

You don't have to take our word for the number. Giving What We Can built a free calculator that places your income on the global distribution in about 30 seconds. No sign-up, no pitch.

Last night at the Horizon Impact Lab, we moved beyond the conceptual and into the strategic. 🧠📊

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for a fascinating deep dive into the mechanics of impact maximisation. We explored the 'why' and 'how' behind making a difference, tackled the nuanced debate surrounding cost-effectiveness analyses, and compared the distinct methodologies of GiveWell and the Happier Lives Institute.

We also put theory into practice by applying the ITN framework for cause prioritisation. The level of discourse in the room was truly inspiring.

A special thank you to The Hive for sponsoring the venue and providing the perfect space for such an important conversation. 🙏

Until next time, keep thinking critically about impact.
