Back from Beijing, and what a week! 🇨🇳

Our students from and packed in everything, from climbing the steep steps of the Mutianyu Great Wall and racing down on the toboggan to moving through the Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, and the winding hutongs. Chinese moved into real conversations, with prices negotiated in markets and questions exchanged. Dumplings were rolled and eaten, games played in courtyards, and even a few birthdays celebrated along the way, with moments of cultural exchange woven throughout.

A week designed to take learning beyond the classroom, made possible by our teachers. All photos and videos are available for our Year 6 parents on the respective Padlets.

Kellett at the Battle of the Books Hong Kong. 📚

Across both Prep and Senior, our teams took on a day of fast-paced, detail-driven competition, testing reading knowledge, recall, and teamwork built over months of preparation. From weekly discussions to practice rounds, the work behind the scenes showed in the way students approached each round.

In Prep, our team placed second, finishing just under two points from the top. In Senior, our team competed strongly throughout the day, narrowly missing out on a place in the final. Across both, students demonstrated a deep understanding of the texts and a shared commitment to the challenge.

Battle of the Books continues to offer something distinct, where reading becomes collaborative, thinking becomes immediate, and every answer counts. A strong showing across the School, with thanks to Mrs Nandwani and Ms Wong in Prep, and to Ms Yeung, Ms Copley, and our student coach, Allegra (Y10), for their guidance and preparation.

Kellett is proud to host this year’s FOBISIA Safeguarding and Pastoral Care Conference.

Day 1 welcomed over 200 delegates from across the region, with the rain doing little to slow the conversations, connections, and shared focus on safeguarding and pastoral care that brought everyone together.

The day began with the Eating Disorder Awareness pre-conference workshop delivered by our naming partner . Our students (Concertante Strings) performed ahead of the panel discussion, providing a moment to pause before the afternoon sessions began. From the student panel featuring voices from HK FOBISIA schools to a keynote by Ryan Parke, the programme moved with clarity and purpose.

Thank you to Hayley Wilson and the Executive Committee for their leadership, alongside our Kellett Safeguarding team, Dean Penney, Hannah Wright, and Joe Alsop, and to our social sponsor, The Safeguarding Alliance.

Looking ahead to Day 2, workshops and sessions continue, with conversations around safeguarding and pastoral care shaping the environments where students learn and feel supported.

Our students took to the stage with curiosity on show. Through their science-themed class assembly, they asked big questions, explored the ideas of well-known scientists, and reflected on the ones still being worked out today.

From investigations with their buddies to colour-changing bottles in motion, the auditorium stayed active from start to finish.

Our students took to the stage for their class assembly, bringing the world of Ancient Egypt into focus through performance. From mummies and hieroglyphs to the importance of the Nile and the roles of gods and goddesses, students shared what they learned about how ancient civilisations help us understand the past.

Through their roles and the artefacts they introduced, students led the audience through key moments of Ancient Egypt, linking ideas of discovery and curiosity with the stories carried forward over time.

Our Reception students enjoyed a Teddy Bear Picnic in the covered area as part of their Bears topic. Along the way, they explored different types of bears, from polar bears and brown bears to pandas and black bears, building their understanding of what makes each one unique.

To bring it all together, students baked their own cookies and shared a picnic with their teddies, gathering around the mat, where our 50th Anniversary banner made an appearance.

Our Student Council sold notebooks, keychains, and stickers in support of Love21 Foundation, a Hong Kong charity that empowers individuals with Down syndrome and autism through sport, nutrition, and community programmes.

Each sale added up, with students leading the way and putting service into practice.

Funds will be counted once our Student Treasurer returns from a school trip. Thank you to everyone who showed their support, and to our Student Council for their commitment throughout.

Market‑ready for Beijing. 🇨🇳

As part of Beijing preparation week at and , our students explored currency and haggling, building the practical language and vocabulary they will soon need in local markets.

Through role play and discussion, students practised negotiating prices, using numbers with confidence, and thinking on their feet. A lesson rooted in real-world application, where maths, language, and cultural understanding come together ahead of next week’s trip.

Photos from the Beijing trip will be shared with Year 6 parents via a dedicated group Padlet.

From reef map to reef water. 🌊

Our geographers took their fieldwork to Sai Kung, moving from coastal context into in-situ investigation, with Sharp Island offering ideal conditions to collect and test data on local coral ecosystems.

It begins at the pier, where the outline of the bay is traced and the reef system first comes into focus. At the shoreline, wetsuits on and masks pushed up, preparation shifts into practice. A probe is passed carefully between hands, readings called out, and results recorded in real time.

A few steps later, the process continues in the shallows, where measurements are taken, cross-checked, and compared across different points. With clear water and careful teamwork, observation turns into data, revealing patterns in how human activity shapes the reef environment.

Guided by Estelle Davies from the Living Oceans Foundation, what begins in the water carries forward into the data that follows.
