This year, the Orientation Day (O Day) for The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was held on 6 August. The College uses a unique theme every year to help new students understand Chung Chi’s characteristics, with ‘ChungChiTopia’ employed this year, not only to introduce the College’s comfortable environment and comprehensive facilities, but more importantly, to show new students Chung Chi’s lively and encouraging atmosphere. 傳統水墨絕不沉悶。在孩童筆下，「點、線、面」化作游魚、花鳥與小屋，甚至能以破筆揮灑出流暢山水。當代水墨畫家和平面設計師靳埭強博士融匯東西方美學。近年，他將師承自香港「新水墨運動」奠基者呂壽琨的「師古、師自然、師我」心法，轉化為啟迪孩童的美學泉源，引導外孫女阮迎及多位小小藝術家觀察日常、大膽創新。

本次師生展以「師我．我師」為題，呈現靳博士的新作、學生佳作與教學心得，深刻體現大師與孩童互為老師、共同成長的「教學相長」精神。

展覽主題亦與崇基學院之育人理念互相呼應，學院致力推動全人教育，重視師生同行。適逢崇基創校七十五周年，學院特邀靳氏師生聯袂展出，作為校慶展覽之一。展覽既見證薪火相傳的精神，也寄託對未來的期盼，透過藝術啟迪創意、涵養人文。

Traditional ink is far from lifeless. Beneath a child’s playful brush, simple dots, lines, and washes bloom into darting fish and quiet cottages, while even a frayed brush sweeps across paper to release the flowing spirit of mountains and rivers.

Contemporary master Dr. Kan Tai-keung has long blended Eastern aesthetics with Western design thinking. Channelling the "learning from tradition, nature, and self" philosophy of New Ink Movement pioneer Lui Shou-kwan, he transforms it into a wellspring of inspiration, guiding his granddaughter, Xenia Yuen, and other young artists to observe the everyday and paint with boundless imagination.

Under the theme "Ink Echoes: A Shared Path" (師我．我師), this joint exhibition showcases Dr. Kan’s latest creations alongside student works, beautifully capturing the spirit of mutual learning and growth.

The theme of this exhibition also resonates deeply with Chung Chi College’s educational mission and commitment to whole-person development, where holistic education and the value of learning through teacher-student companionship have long been cherished. In celebration of Chung Chi College’s 75th Anniversary, the College is honoured to invite Dr. Kan and his students to present their works. Through this exhibition, the enduring spirit of generational continuity is brought to the fore, while aspirations for the future are reflected. Through art, the exhibition seeks to inspire creativity and cultivate humanistic values.

【Chung Chi College 75th Anniversary Excellence Talk Series: "Future Innovation" – Online Replay Now Available 📣】

We were honoured to have two distinguished guests as speakers for this talk series: Professor Philip Chiu Wai-yan, Dean of the CUHK Faculty of Medicine, CUHK Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund Professor of Robotic Surgery, and Director of the CUHK Multi-Scale Medical Robotics Center; and Professor Herbert Chia Pun-kok, Senior Advisor of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Hong Kong & Macau, former Vice President of Alibaba Group, and Adjunct Associate Professor of the Institute for China Business at the University of Hong Kong. 🗣️

Professor Chiu delivered a talk on "Medicine-Engineering Innovative Breakthroughs Against Cancer", analysed how the cross-disciplinary integration of medicine and engineering is enhancing the precision and accessibility of cancer treatments🧬. Professor Chia, in his talk "Leading Change through Artificial Intelligence", explored how AI is reshaping industries and society 🤖.

/ 崇基學院院長巡禮 (V) 譚尚渭教授 /

為誌崇基賢達對學院發展的貢獻，專欄現正介紹歷任院長事蹟，今期主角為譚尚渭教授。譚教授於一九六五年加入崇基，曾任學院化學系系主任、理學院院長及應林堂舍監，及後兩度出任崇基院長，並在第二個院長任期內策劃禮拜堂與圖書館擴建及教學樓重建。學院以外，譚教授還肩負中大教學及行政工作，曾任研究院院長、化學系講座教授和中大副校長。

一九九五年，譚教授從中大榮休，旋獲委任為香港公開進修學院院長，並在該院升格為大學後，任校長至二○○三年。他亦曾任基督教聯合醫院管治委員會，及世界傳道會／那打素基金之主席。

為表揚譚教授之傑出貢獻，他先後獲太平紳士銜、OBE 勳銜及金紫荊星章，並獲英國公開大學、諾丁漢大學及香港公開大學頒授榮譽博士學位，以及中大頒授之榮譽院士銜。睇今期未圓時空了解更多。

/ Chung Chi College Head (V) Professor Tam Sheung Wai /

To commemorate the contributions of our esteemed leaders, Found Space is introducing the College Head, featuring Professor Tam Sheung Wai, in this issue. Professor Tam joined Chung Chi College in 1965, where he held posts as Chairman of the Department of Chemistry, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Warden of Ying Lin Tang. He assumed the position of College Head twice and oversaw the planning of the chapel and library extensions and the teaching blocks reconstruction during his second term. Professor Tam also shouldered teaching and administrative responsibilities at CUHK, including the Dean of the Graduate School, Chair Professor of Chemistry, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Professor Tam retired from CUHK in 1995 and was soon appointed President of the Open Learning Institute of Hong Kong. After it was upgraded to a university – the OUHK, he continued as its President until 2003. Professor Tam also served as chair in different local organisations, such as the Hospital Governing Committee of the United Christian Hospital, and the Council for World Mission/Hong Kong Nethersole Fund.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he was appointed the Justice of the Peace and awarded honours including the OBE and the Gold Bauhinia Star. He also received honorary doctorates from the Open University in the UK, the University of Nottingham and OUHK, and was conferred an Honorary Fellowship by CUHK.
