30th SJG Venture Scout Unit

On the 22 to 23rd November 2025, the 30th SJG VSU went to Nam Shan Campsite to fulfill the basic requirements for the Venture Scouts Epaulettes. They participated in activities such as campcraft, cooking, map reading and learning basic Venture knowledge.

While this camp may have only been one night long, all of our Venture Scouts had great fun enjoying the natural landscape of Lantau Island while simultaneously fulfilling Epaulettes requirements.

Meeting number one of the year guys woohoo!(and quite the productive one at that!)🥳🥳🥳.

On Monday, the 30th venture scouts held a little meeting to get reacquainted after the summer and plan for this bombastically amazing year. (How exciting am I right🤯🤯🤯)

From 25 July to 3 August 2025, Portugal hosted the 16th World Scout Moot, bringing together over 7,000 participants and IST from across the world. 🌍✨

The first five days took us on the Path, where we crossed mountains and rivers, engaged with the challenges and adventures across Portugal. 🏞️💧

In the last five days, all Scouts gathered back together in Ovar Main Camp for activities, workshops, and celebrations. 🎉⚜️

We built friendships, connected with people from every corner of the world, and found little gems of inspiration everywhere we went. 💚🌟

This summer, our AVSL Doug Nairne is hard at work as one of the members of the 26th World Scout Jamboree planning team 💪. Doug was in Poland diligently making progress on organising this absolute flagship Scouting event. We hope to see you there in 2027! 🌍⚜️⛺️🇵🇱

Yet another successful year with the 30th SJG Venture Scouts. On 23 June 2025, we celebrated the last meeting of the year with a delectable meal and a good laugh at all the wonderful memories from the past year. Cheers for the upcoming AGM and the year ahead 🥳🎉.

From May 2025 to June 2025, our Venture Scout Chor Xi Tang participated in the HKN pioneering course. Learning many new knots, the 3-2-1 anchor, and the pulley system. Chor Xi Tang completed building the hourglass tower, the monkey bridge, and the aerial runway completing the pioneering course and assessment modules. One step closer to the Venture Scout Award and the Dragon Scout Award!

The Silver Jubilee District Annual General Meeting on 6 June 2025 was a celebration of all things Scouting throughout the last year. For the 30th, it was a great night as we were able to present the Venture Scout Section report as well as our Unit report. We also celebrated the formation of a new VSU within SJD, the 1694th SJG Venture Scouts, as well as proposing and voting on the formation of a Venture Scout Board to coordinate activities. Our Venture Scout Jamie Shih was reelected to the District Executive Committee and our Unit motioned for Aspen Kwan from the 1694th Unit to join as well.

In addition to the great food, our Chair, Luciano, was awarded a certificate of commendation from the District Commissioner, Darren Barton, for his work in SJD Scouting over the years.

Our Venture Scout, Matthew Tsang Ok Sang, planned an Amazing Race for a joint activity with the 5th & 36th Hong Kong Scout Troops on 26 April 2025.
The teams were sent on an adventure in mixed groups of 5th Hong Kong and 36th Hong Kong Scouts from the Central Ferry Pier across Central and to Causeway Bay, exploring the history, and sights of the city we call home. One parent participant was so thrilled they even wished to recommend a team training day such as this race to their friends!

From 14 to 16 March 2025, the Venture Scouts our Unit attended the Silver Jubilee District Camp. Despite the thunderstorm and fog on the 15th, which seeped water through some of our tents, our members persisted. Through a fun activity of quizzes and charades, the Venture Scouts were able to hold one of the many stations dedicated to helping the Scouts and Cubs uncover the mystery of the stolen SJD crown.

Overall, it was a successful event with our Venture Scouts able to mingle and get to know other Scouts. We hope to see you there with us next year! Join us in Scouting today.

On 1 March 2025, one of our Venture Scouts supported the Gurkha Trailblazer race in the New Territories, helping to set up, organise and run one of the checkpoints. The race raises money for children in Nepal and Nepalese youth in Hong Kong, and it was gratifying to see both runners and volunteers support a good cause.

Back on 18 to 19 January 2025, our Venture Scouts went to HK100 checkpoints to support the event, helping to organise, run, and service checkpoints throughout the race. It was tiring but worth it.
