[STATEMENT REGARDING THE EXTRADITION LAW AMENDMENT]
Dear CKY community,
Two of our former extended committee members, Keith Cheung and Brayden Pun, has initiated this statement for alumni, students and staff of CKY to voice our opposition against the amendment of the Extradition Law. After a brief discussion, the five core members of Yau's Hub has unanimously agreed to support this act as a collective. Whilst we fought for the quality of student life within CKY, we believe that it is equally important for us to have a society that fairly protects the rights of its citizens, an integral part to our quality of life. We firmly believe that the forceful amendment of the Extradition Law will harm the integrity of our rule of law, and more detrimentally show that the SAR government can blatantly disregard public opinion in favour of the interests of Beijing. Therefore, we hope you can all join us in voicing out, in defence of the city we all care about.
Of course, also join the march on 9th June.
Yours sincerely,
Yau's Hub
**Note: This statement does not represent the CKY student body, alumnus or its staff as a whole. It also does not represent the stance of any existing student organizations in CKY, including the incumbent Student Society cabinet.

[OUR LAST OFFICIAL STATEMENT]
Dear CKY community,
At this point in time, Yau's Hub no longer bears the official status as the cabinet of CKY's Student Society. Our year-long journey has finally come to an end. We would like to utilise this moment to make a reflection on our term and express some feelings the five of us share.
First and foremost, we would like to congratulate CKY Ohana 蔡。回家 on their election to be our successor as the CKY Student Society cabinet. We understand that having the courage to register in an election and be able enough to win it is a difficult process, which makes your victory nothing short of extraordinary. We have faith in you and hope that you can surpass our achievements to build a more vibrant atmosphere in the student body. We will be there to share with you the needed experience when the occasion requires, although we are confident you can build an enduring legacy for yourselves.
We would also like to thanks our three dedicates teachers in charge - Mr James Kuan, Ms Jennifer Chung and Ms Sabrina Tang - for helping and supporting us throughout the way. You have gone out of their way to ensure a successful ex*****on of our projects, standing with us to tackle school bureaucracy. Throughout the year, we genuinely felt that you care about the society as much as we do. We will treasure the struggles and discussions we had over how to run a certain event.
To our dear extended committee, we apologise for not giving sufficient recognition for your work over the past year. You responded to our call for extra students to assist the running of the society, and have given key contributions in multiple areas. Working not for your CV but only for the benefit of the society, we would not be able to accomplish what we did without you.
Finally, to the students of CKY. We thank you for the tremendous support for our different events and hope that you continue this support to the new cabinet. We may have promised you many things at the campaign which never materialised, but we would like to assure you that every effort has been tried by us to deliver as much as we could given multiple constraints from the school and also the practical limits of the society.
Many issues we saw in the school that prompted the beginning of this campaign remain unsolved. Whilst CKY gains more and more reputation as a great school, we must admit it is far from perfect. To solve the problem in its entirety is far beyond a student's reach, but what we can do is to improve the atmosphere in the campus for students to live a fulfilling campus life. We regret to see many students withdrawing themselves from an active campus life, consider school life as only attending all necessary lessons from 8-4. Our school teams are given far too little recognition for what they do, our students feel discouraged to start initiatives on their own, our school not making many of us feel proud. This is not fully the fault of the students, but we hope to leave a legacy where the students of CKY feel unembarrassed to say they love their school and want to contribute to a better campus atmosphere.
Despite no longer serving an official position, Yau's Hub does not end here. We still care deeply about the well-being of our school and are thinking of ways to engage with you all. This page will not cease to exist, but be used as a platform for us to communicate more of our thoughts. Keep following us!
Yours truly,
Yau's Hub
2017-18 CKY Student Society cabinet

[YAU'S HUB SPORTS TEAM MVP INTERVIEWS - JOSEPHINE FU]

Team: Basketball (Girls)
Overview:
The Girls Basketball Team had a successful year under the strong performance of its younger team members. They were Champions and 1st runner-up respectively in the HKSSF Division 3 (Kowloon Two) B Grade and C Grade competitions. They ranked 2nd overall in the area, narrowly missing out on promotion. To get better and play professionally
What have you learnt from playing sport?

How do you feel about the school’s support to your team?
I think that the school’s support has been great but include more sports-related extracurricular activities instead of academic activities.
Your team was champion of the Division Three B grade competition. How do you feel about that?
I think that this proves that we could win this, given our past reputation of losing badly.
What are the difficulties of being a team leader?
To be able to consistently do well.

[YAU'S HUB SPORTS TEAM MVP INTERVIEWS - ANSON NG]
Team: Volleyball (Boys)
Overview:
The boy's Volleyball Team made respectable showings at various tournaments during its first year of existence. The C Grade team became CKY's first to participate in the HKSSF 5-a-side competition, despite losing all of their competitive matches in Division 2 (Kowloon). However, there were more encouraging results from the discipline of Beach Volleyball, with both the A Grade and BC Grade teams breaking to the Round of 16 in the HKSSF Division 2 competition, contributing to an overall 9th place. Anson was chosen to be the MVP due to his excellent work as Captain, including his guidance to new team members and help in the organisation of team activities. Overall, he was praised as a good role model for team members to follow.
Interview:
What are your initial thoughts to be selected as a sports team MVP?
I am so grateful to receive such an award and I need to thank Ms Au, coach and teammates for giving me endless opportunities and support.
What motivates you to work for excellence in Volleyball?
The main motivation comes from my passion for volleyball. When you love something so much you’d eventually pour your heart into it and do your very best to make it perfect. Another reason I’d work so hard for the team is for my teammates (brothers). When all of us developed a really special bond, it makes it comfortable and fun during training sessions for each and everyone.
What have you learnt from playing sport?
I’ve learnt that you need to be encouraging and supportive in order to play this sport. Volleyball is a team sport and the team’s performance heavily relies on each player’s ability to play at a high level. The sport is both physically and mentally demanding, if we don’t work as a team, we’ll never reach our goal (champion). Lastly, I would say communication between teammates is the most vital element for this sport. Sometimes the communication between us determines the whole game e.g if you don’t speak up or remind your teammates, your team will probably lose the match. On the other hand, if everyone communicates and remind each other, there’s a high chance that we will win the match.
How do you feel about the school’s support to your team?
I mean it’s technically the first year for the boy's volleyball team, but all of us can feel the love and support from VP lam, Ms Au and the girl's volleyball team. Supposedly, we only have 1 training session each week. Due to the A grade beach volleyball team’s generosity, we now have 2 training sessions per week. This makes a huge difference for all of us as we get to practice more, leading us to success!
Volleyball is far less popular among boys than girls in Hong Kong, what drove you to play volleyball?
The reason I started playing volleyball is entirely because of my cousin’s interest in volleyball. If it wasn’t her, I wouldn’t be playing volleyball too. She’s a part of the Hong Kong girl’s beach volleyball team and I am so lucky to have her as my guidance and a side coach. Nevertheless, I have to express my gratitude especially towards Ms.Au, VP Lam, Venus Yeung, Venus Lam, Michael Chan, Julius Lam and Charis Fung, they’re the ones who made me who I am today, thank you🤪
What are your expectations for the team next year?
I hope everybody will do their best next year and reach their fullest potential. Bye 👋🏻

[YAU'S HUB SPORTS TEAM MVP INTERVIEWS - MEGAN SHING]
Team: Ultimate (Frisbee)*
Overview:
The Frisbee Team award was intended for the sole best individual of the unique mixed-gender team, but outstanding performances from multiple players has led to the special decision that the Frisbee Team award os to be shared among two individuals. One of them is Megan Shing, being praised for her concentration during training and ability to help her teammates raise their performance. She helped the team to 3rd place in the HKIS tournament, the best showing of the Frisbee Team this year.
Interview:
How do you feel about being chosen as this year’s MVP for frisbee?
Being chosen as MVP this year was mostly surprising as I found out that I was chosen right before the ceremony, and I would’ve never expected to be chosen as MVP among all our brilliant players.
What is your motivation when playing frisbee that allowed you to stand out from other players?
When it comes to technical skills and playing in matches, I believe that I don’t really stand out from other players. The main motivation that has allowed me to “stand out” from other players is probably my attitude towards playing the game. Although Frisbee is a very competitive sport, Frisbee Spirit is still a big part of the game. My main motivation was to remain positive and enjoy having fun while playing in a match.
What have you gained from playing frisbee?
Besides new Frisbee techniques and tactics, playing Frisbee has mainly strengthened the idea of team spirit and Frisbee spirit in general. I believe that playing Frisbee has brought our team together as well as bringing us closer to the other teams that we played against.
How do you feel about the school’s support for frisbee?
I believe that the school has offered Frisbee some support, as in promoting the sport through opening up the football field, the indoor gym, as well as organizing the inter-house Frisbee tournament. As for improvement, perhaps the school can find a place where we can play Frisbee in recess and lunch. At the moment, any people who would like to play Frisbee in recess and lunch would have to play in the basketball court, sharing the court with basketball players. It would be great if the school can find a place for us to play Frisbee without needing to share a court with the basketball players, as it is partially dangerous and decreases space for both Frisbee and basketball players.
Before joining the school team, have you played frisbee competitively? Did that affect your approach to playing this sport?
Before joining the school team, I’ve not played Frisbee besides with my classmates and at the inter-house Frisbee tournament. As I haven’t been playing Frisbee competitively before joining the school team, it didn’t affect my approach on playing this sport very much.
Presumably, you are one of the younger members of the team; was this a challenge when you worked as the vice-captain?
I expected that being a spirit captain would be way more stressful than it was. Since I’m not the best at talking during spirit circles, I was nervous to say the least.
*Note: Though many refer to the sport as Frisbee, it is a registered trademark of the Wham-O Company and not intended for such use. The official name of the sport is therefore Ultimate to avoid copyright infringements. However, the name Frisbee is used in this article as it is commonly known among the school community.

[YAU'S HUB SPORTS TEAM MVP INTERVIEWS - MEKU MAK]

[YAU'S HUB SPORTS TEAM MVP INTERVIEWS - OSCAR CHAN]

[YAU'S HUB SPORTS TEAM MVP INTERVIEWS - BRYAN SHIN]
Team: Table Tennis (Boys)
Overview:
Bryan was praised as a hard-working and positive team member during training, and was able to maintain a high attendance rate despite his academic workload. These led to his selection as the MVP of the boys' Table Tennis Team as a relatively inexperienced team member, playing Table Tennis only since Year 6. Over the past year, he has helped the team become champions in the HKSSF Division Three (Kowloon One) A Grade competition and come second in the overall competition, narrowly missing promotion.
Interview:
What are your initial thoughts to be selected as a sports team MVP?
I was quite surprised to be selected as a sports team MVP, I did not anticipate it at all.
What motivates you to work for excellence in your sport?
I started playing table tennis in year 6 because my friend played table tennis, so I joined him in training sessions and started picking up the basic table tennis skills. Initially, I didn’t want to work for excellence as I was only chosen into the school team as a backup player, there wasn’t much motivation. However, it all changed when I played in my first ever inter-school table tennis competition; losing all my matches motivated me to do better next year. So I started treating Table Tennis more seriously.
What have you learnt from playing your sport?
There were many situations in competitions where I was 1 or 2 points away from losing the whole match. I have learnt to not give up easily in these situations as there was a possibility of coming back to win the match. Also, I have learnt to be adaptable; a tactic might work for one opponent but not others. Therefore I have learned to always change my tactics, depending on my opponent, in a game even though I might not be comfortable with it.
How do you feel about the school’s support to your team
There was sufficient support for the school team in terms of the resources; we were able to use adequate tables, updated and new table tennis balls, and most importantly being able to use the lecture theatre as our venue for training; many local clubs, schools do not have such a big training space. Training sessions are frequent as well as there are sessions throughout the whole academic year and even during summer.
Your coach mentioned your high attendance rate. As an IB student, how are you able to balance sports and academics?
Usually, I try to finish all my academic work after training at home and to not procrastinate, sometimes I finish work in advance to reduce my workload in the future.
You started table tennis only from year 6. As a late starter, how do you catch up with your peer’s level?
I think learning from losing competitions makes me improve faster as I can analyse my weaknesses and learn from my opponents. Playing in more competitions also makes me exposed to a greater variety of opponents with various playing styles.

[YAU'S HUB SPORTS TEAM MVP INTERVIEWS - EMILY WONG]
Team: Table Tennis (Girls)
Overview:
The first MVP in our series is also the youngest of them. As the only Year 6 MVP, she was selected ahead of her elder teammates due to her high attendance to training, and by a serious and positive attitude to her performance. Her major achievement in the year is the qualification to the main draw of the Hang Seng All-Schools Championship girls singles competition. Unfortunately, the C Grade team had to withdraw from the HKSSF Division 2 Competition, and as a result they will return to Division 3 next year.
Interview:
What are your initial thoughts to be selected as a sports team MVP?
My initial thoughts to be selected as a sports team MVP is that I was very shocked and surprised because I never thought of having this award. I was also very glad that the table tennis team coach appreciated my hard work.
What motivates you to work for excellence in your sport?
I am always interested in playing Table Tennis. For me, this is not just a sport, but also a hobby that I find joy from. As I play continuously, my level naturally improves.
What have you learnt from playing sport?
My Table Tennis coaches taught me not to be over-confident and arrogant when I win, but to be humble to everyone. They have also taught me not to be afraid when playing opponents considered superior to me, and never give up.
Any Interesting incdents to share?
The interesting incident I want to share when playing table tennis is when I had to perform table tennis with my teammates on the stage during open day. I had never performed table tennis on the stage and was very energetic and excited to play table tennis during open day. I had to run around the table making sure not to drop the ball on to the ground. It was very fun. Despite that I had to perform on stage in front of many people, I had enjoyed it very much.
How do you feel about school support to your team?
I was very grateful that the school has strongly supported table tennis team by letting the whole table tennis team perform on the stage during open day, which had made us increase our confidence in playing table tennis.
