婆羅洲是世界第三大島，擁有東南亞第一高峰，除了擁有低地熱帶雨林及中高海拔原始森林之外，濱海地區亦分佈有紅樹林及沿岸濕地。婆羅洲與附近陸地分隔，遺世獨立，發展出許多全球特有的動植物，國際組織「保護國際」（Conservation International）將其例為全球二十五個生物多樣性熱點之一。

今次帶領生態遊學團考察婆羅州，旅程期間我們會進行解說、環境保育議題背景、互動分享及器材使用，讓每位參加者盡情投入這次學習之旅。

生態協會2026年6月厄瓜多爾之行，團隊在前往加拉帕戈斯群島之前到訪了厄瓜多爾首都基多（Quito）東南方約 50 公里處的安蒂薩納火山 (Volcano Antisana)，這座雄偉的山峰海拔高達 5,753 公尺，是厄瓜多爾第四高的火山。Antisana 周邊擁有極高的生物多樣性，是許多珍稀物種的家園，包括許多安地斯山脈高地特有物種。
Before heading to the Galápagos Islands, the team visited Volcano Antisana, located about 50 kilometers southeast of Quito, the capital of Ecuador. This majestic peak rises to an elevation of 5,753 meters, making it the fourth-highest volcano in Ecuador. The area surrounding Antisana boasts exceptionally high biodiversity and is home to many rare species, including numerous high-altitude endemics found only in the Andes Mountains.

在亞馬遜雨林中，生物為了生存演化出各種極端策略。子彈蟻（Bullet Ant）選擇了「最痛的防禦」，而蟻蛛（Ant-mimic Spider）則走向了「終極的模仿」。子彈蟻（Paraponera clavata）是世界上最大的螞蟻之一，主要生活在亞馬遜雨林，名字說明了被叮咬的感受——像被子彈擊中一般。其毒液含有名為「子彈蟻毒素（Poneratoxin）」的神經毒素，能阻斷神經訊號傳遞，導致劇烈疼痛、肌肉抽搐、發燒，甚至暫時性麻痺。
蟻蛛（Ant-mimic Spider）其實並非單一物種，而是指一類在形態和行為上模仿螞蟻的蜘蛛。在亞馬遜地區，許多屬於跳蛛科（Salticidae）或管巢蛛科（Clubionidae）的蜘蛛都是擬蟻高手。蜘蛛身體分為兩節（頭胸部和腹部），而螞蟻則分為三節（頭、胸、腹）。為了「造假」，蟻蛛演化出纖細的身體和腰身，有些種類會用身體的收縮來模擬螞蟻的腰部結構。牠們會將第一對步足高高舉起，不斷擺動，無論是外觀還是動作，都與螞蟻的觸角如出一轍。這是一種「貝氏擬態」，即無害的物種模仿具有危險性的物種（如螞蟻）來騙過天敵。螞蟻有強大的顎和螫針，且常群體行動，許多捕食者會避開，蟻蛛藉此獲得保護。
子彈蟻與蟻蛛展現了亞馬遜雨林中兩種截然不同的生存之道：一種是憑藉絕對力量（劇痛毒液）正面迎敵，另一種則是靠著精湛的模仿（外觀與行為）在夾縫中求生。無論是哪一種方式，都展現了物種之間的奇妙互動。

In the Amazon rainforest, organisms have evolved a variety of extreme strategies for survival. The bullet ant (Paraponera clavata) has chosen "the most painful defense," while the ant-mimic spider has taken the path of "ultimate imitation." The bullet ant is one of the largest ants in the world, primarily found in the Amazon rainforest. Its name describes the sensation of its sting—like being shot by a bullet. Its venom contains a neurotoxin called poneratoxin, which blocks nerve signal transmission, causing intense pain, muscle spasms, fever, and even temporary paralysis.

The ant-mimic spider is not actually a single species, but rather a group of spiders that imitate ants in both morphology and behavior. In the Amazon region, many spiders belonging to the families Salticidae (jumping spiders) or Clubionidae (sac spiders) are masters of ant mimicry. Spiders have bodies divided into two segments (cephalothorax and abdomen), while ants have three (head, thorax, and abdomen). To "fake" this appearance, ant-mimic spiders have evolved slender bodies and narrowed waists, with some species using muscular constriction to simulate the waist structure of ants. They also raise their first pair of walking legs high in the air and constantly wave them, making both their appearance and movements resemble the antennae of ants. This is a form of Batesian mimicry, in which a harmless species mimics a dangerous one (such as an ant) to deceive predators. Ants possess powerful mandibles and stings, and often move in groups, leading many predators to avoid them—and the ant-mimic spider gains protection through this resemblance.

The bullet ant and the ant-mimic spider represent two completely different survival strategies in the Amazon rainforest: one relies on absolute power (agonizing venom) to confront enemies head-on, while the other depends on exquisite mimicry (in appearance and behavior) to survive in the margins. Whichever approach is taken, both reveal the fascinating interactions between species.
