Big congratulations to Prof. Junjie Chen, Prof. Wilson Lu and the iLab team!
We are incredibly proud to see their groundbreaking project featured in the HKU Bulletin. This exciting coverage comes hot on the heels of the project winning a Gold Medal at the 51st International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva this past March.
Prof. Chenโs innovative work in building inspection technologies and sustainable construction is a shining example of how HKU academic research creates real, tangible benefits for the community.

On May 20, the HKU Department of Real Estate and Construction, in collaboration with the Association for Project Management Greater Bay Area (APM GBA), hosted a highly insightful joint event: "Project Management Following the Grenfell Inquiry Ph 2." We were thrilled to welcome local attendees in person alongside international participants who joined us via webinar.
The Grenfell Tower fire has brought forward critical lessons for the global construction and project management industries. During our session, we explored the key findings of the inquiry and had deep, thought-provoking discussions on the profound implications for building safety, regulatory compliance, and the evolving responsibilities of project professionals. It was wonderful to see such a diverse group of students, academics, and industry practitioners coming together to learn, share expertise, and network.
A huge thank you to our speaker, Mr. Mark Ashton and APM GBA team for facilitating this essential dialogue!

Is the built environment truly ready for an AI revolution? Last week, we explored this critical question during a research seminar with Prof. Michael Pitt from UCL. While AI, BIM, and digital twins offer huge potential, Prof. Pitt highlighted practical hurdles like fragmented data, interoperability, and the challenge of accounting for human behavior in Facilities Management. To succeed, the industry needs a holistic, strategically aligned approach to digital transformation.
Thank you to Prof. Pitt and everyone who joined the discussion!

On April 20, Prof. Tan Tan and Dr. Wang Jing led an immersive joint site visit that brought together HKU MSc(DMBA) students and EMBA candidates from the Vienna University of Economics and Business. The visiting cohort, comprising senior executives from 13 European countries, joined our students to explore Hong Kongโs dynamic built environment. The comprehensive itinerary featured the AECOM Asia Headquarters, The Henderson, and Light Public Housing (LPH) projectsโwhere the Secretary for Housing, Ms. Winnie Ho, delivered an insightful introductory sharing. Showcasing a diverse spectrum of the city's urban development, this cross-cultural exchange provided a unique platform for high-level networking, successfully bridging European executive insights with Hong Kongโs innovative real estate and construction landscape.
