This seminar explores the enforcement architecture of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) from an empirical and doctrinal perspective. In particular, it examines the effectiveness of its numerous enforcement measures (regulatory action by data protection authorities, administrative fines, compliance obligations, and liability for damages) and overlapping judicial pathways (administrative and civil courts).

Behind every new era lies the rise of a key factor of production: from land, oil, and electricity to data, and now it is the Tokenโ€™s turn. We build our analytical framework around the idea of โ€œintelligence as a service,โ€ arguing that what large models truly deliver is no longer merely a tool, but a form of intelligence that can be called upon, metered, and priced on demand. Following this thread, we go on to examine the nature, cost, value, and competitive logic of the Token economy. Our central claim is that competition in AI is shifting from โ€œcan it be usedโ€ to โ€œis it worth using.โ€ Token efficiency, the ROI of the AI era, will become the key measure for understanding this wave of technological revolution. Yet the ultimate standard for judging AI is never how many Tokens it consumes, but how much it helps people get done and how much it amplifies their abilities. The end point of the Token economy remains, after all, the human being.

Complex conflict of laws issues arise in cross-border transactions and cross-border litigation concerning intellectual property rights. The new book by Prof. Triomble sets out the key principles of conflict of laws as they apply to IP cases and analyses essential conflict of laws concepts and rules in light of their practical application in the IP law context. Her presentation will highlight some of the key and recent examples of the intersection of the two areas of law.

The Greater Bay Area is witnessing a historic policy breakthrough: cross-border data flows are finally being opened through new โ€œwhitelistโ€ mechanisms and pilot zones. But data crossing the border is only the first stepโ€”the real value lies in turning that data into AI-ready assets that power smarter legal practice. This seminar unpacks the latest NPC policy proposals, examines the โ€œHetaoโ€ data green channel, and explores how professional data services are transforming raw legal data into actionable intelligence. Join us to understand the โ€œdata bridgeโ€ that will define the future of legal practice in the GBA.
