• Support extendable to 36 months (if approved)
• Continues when awardee progresses to Assistant Professor or RAP during the fellowship period

The School of Graduate Studies (GS) at Lingnan University hosted the “Empower Your Future: Lingnan Postgraduate Orientation 2026” today, proudly welcoming about 3,200 new postgraduate students from over 20 countries and regions, including the Hong Kong SAR, the Chinese Mainland, the UK, the US, France, Singapore, Nigeria and beyond, as they begin their journey at Lingnan University. 🌏📚

This academic year, Lingnan offers a record high of 50 postgraduate programmes, including new offerings in Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and Smart Manufacturing. Lingnan continues its commitment to nurturing future-ready talent for an increasingly digital and interconnected world.

【嶺大在2026年軟科世界大學學術排名攀升300位⏫ 本港八所資助大學中升幅最大排名躍居第六位✨】

嶺南大學在2026年「軟科世界大學學術排名」中，排名由全球第901至1000位區間大幅提升至第601至700位區間，較去年上升300位，在香港特區八所資助大學中升幅最大，排名並列第六位。

今次排名進步令人鼓舞，亦與嶺大近月在其他國際大學排名的上升趨勢一致，反映大學近年持續推動策略轉型所取得的階段性成果，並獲得國際學術界肯定。👏

【Lingnan University rises 300 places in the ShanghaiRanking's 2026 Academic Ranking of World Universities ⏫Reflecting the greatest improvement and ranking 6th among Hong Kong SAR’s eight UGC-funded universities✨】

In the results of the ShanghaiRanking's 2026 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), Lingnan has risen significantly from the 901st to 1,000th global band last year to the 601st to 700th band, a leap of 300 places, and the most important advance among the Hong Kong SAR’s eight UGC-funded universities. The University has also risen to joint 6th place within this group.

This encouraging upswing is consistent with Lingnan’s upward trend in other international university rankings in recent months, reflecting the phased results of its continued strategic transformation in recent years and recognition from the academic community worldwide.👏

【嶺大聯合開發全球首個大型AI考古系統針對辨識跨越五千年中國植物種子🌾🔬】

古代植物種子是研究人類文明演變的重要考古證據。嶺南大學與山東大學聯合開發全球首個針對中國古代植物種子的「人工智能（AI）考古系統」🤖，能模仿考古植物學專家辨識種子，分類準繩度高達九成。學者指出，過往主要依賴專家對考古遺址出土的植物種子逐粒鑑定，既耗時亦難以進行大規模分析；建立標準化的大型數據庫有助提升研究效率，推動考古研究及文化遺產數碼化發展。💡

嶺大協理副校長（策略型研究）、利榮康計算智能學講座教授及研究生院院長鄺得互教授表示：「目前針對古代植物種子的人工智能研究相當有限，亦缺乏公開而具代表性的標準數據庫，是次建立的『AI考古系統』為日後古植物考古提供重要的分析基礎。」研究成果已發表於《自然》旗下子刊、文化遺產領域國際知名期刊《遺產科學》。

【Lingnan University co-develops first large-scale AI archaeological system for ancient Chinese plant seeds🌾🔬】

Ancient plant seeds provide important archaeological evidence for studying the evolution of human civilisation. Lingnan University and Shandong University have jointly developed the world’s first AI archaeological system dedicated to identifying ancient Chinese plant seeds.🤖The system emulates the identification process of archaeobotanical experts and achieves a classification accuracy of over 90 per cent. The researchers point out that the identification of plant seeds excavated from archaeological sites has traditionally relied on experts examining each seed individually, a process that is both time-consuming and difficult to scale. The large, standardised database they have created helps improve research efficiency while advancing archaeobotanical research and the digitalisation of cultural heritage.💡

Prof Sam Kwong Tak-wu, Associate Vice-President (Strategic Research), J.K. Lee Chair Professor of Computational Intelligence and Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at Lingnan University, observed “Research on applying AI to ancient plant seed identification remains very limited, and there are few publicly available and representative standard databases. The AI archaeological system developed in this study provides an important analytical foundation for future archaeobotanical research." The findings have been published in Heritage Science, an internationally recognised journal of cultural heritage and part of the Nature Portfolio.

【嶺大49個研究項目獲研資局資助🎉青年學者成科研主力】

恭喜一眾獲資助的嶺大學者！👏研究資助局最近公布2026/27年度「優配研究金」、「傑出青年學者計劃」，以及「人文學及社會科學傑出學者計劃」的資助結果，嶺南大學有合共49個研究項目獲批資助，總金額近2,700萬港元。💰其中，「優配研究金」及「傑出青年學者計劃」獲批資助項目達48個，創歷年新高📈；而「傑出青年學者計劃」獲資助金額更按年增加近三成，充分體現嶺大年輕學者的卓越學術水平與教研實力。

【Lingnan secures RGC funding for 49 research projects, early-career scholars lead the way🎉】

Lingnan University secured grants for 49 research projects in the 2026/27 competitive funding rounds of the Research Grants Council, which include the General Research Fund (GRF), the Early Career Scheme (ECS), and the Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme (HSSPFS), with total awarded funding approaching HK$27 million.💰

Of these, 48 projects are supported under the GRF and ECS schemes, marking a record high for Lingnan.📈Funding secured under the ECS scheme alone increased by nearly 30 per cent year-on-year, underscoring the strong research capability and academic excellence of Lingnan’s early-career scholars. 第二屆粵港澳大灣區高等教育創新學術研討會於2026年6月13日至14日在深圳大學隆重舉行，以「高等教育創新與大灣區發展」為主題。廣東省高等教育學會、粵港澳高校聯盟、澳門高等教育發展促進會共同主辦，深圳大學承辦。來自粵港澳三地高校的管理層及專家學者共聚一堂，深入探討高等教育創新發展新路徑，貫徹落實國家「十五五」規劃綱要關於高等教育創新發展和粵港澳大灣區建設的重要部署。嶺大校長及韋基球數據科學講座教授秦泗釗教授應邀出席，並作題為《探索人工智能對高等教育影響的四大維度》的主旨報告。🎤

The 2nd Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Higher Education Innovation Symposium was held at Shenzhen University on 13 and 14 June 2026, and themed "Higher Education Innovation and Greater Bay Area Development". The event was organised by the Guangdong Higher Education Society, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance, and the Macao Association for Higher Education Development, and hosted by Shenzhen University. University administrators, experts, and scholars from Guangdong, the Hong Kong SAR, and the Macao SAR explored new pathways for innovative development in higher education, and implementing key national deployments regarding higher education innovation and the Greater Bay Area construction under the 15th Five-Year Plan. Prof S. Joe Qin, President and Wai Kee Kau Chair Professor of Data Science at Lingnan University, was invited, and delivered a keynote address titled "Exploring the Four Dimensions of AI’s Impact on Higher Education". 🎤
