Yeahhh.... You made it! We could not be prouder for our teammate, Tantri and her first Marathon Journey. Here is the message from her:
"Running in the Standard Chartered Hong Kong 10K Marathon with Uplifters is my way of sending a powerful message to myself and everyone out there battling tumours and cancer!
I come from Indonesia and have been living in Hong Kong as a migrant domestic worker for nine years. As a breast tumour survivor, I want to share my positive energy and encouragement with others in my community who are going through similar battles. It’s about finding strength even in the toughest times, and reminding others that no matter how hard the fight, we are resilient. Illness doesn't define us—our spirit, determination, and will to live do. I want to show that even when life challenges us, we can still chase our dreams, make a difference, and find happiness. This run is my way of inspiring hope, courage, and the belief that we are capable of so much more than we think."
Congratulations, Abelia Arra Tantri

On Sunday, 11 January 2026, we were honoured to welcome participants to the launch of Unseen Narrative: Raising Her Voice Through Art at WYNG Sheung Wan, as part of the Women’s Journal series in partnership with PathFinders for Migrant Workers funded by HER Fund HER Fund 婦女動力基金
Our first workshop, Building Community and Safe Spaces, was facilitated by Zamira Monteiro, Founder of Amplify Consulting. Zamira opened with a movement-based exercise to foster connection, followed by guided reflections on individual potential, community rules, and both personal and collective goals—ensuring every voice in the room was heard and valued.
The room quickly filled with laughter, creativity, ownership, and genuine engagement. Through thoughtful design and facilitation, Zamira supported participants in seeing themselves beyond their roles as domestic workers in Hong Kong. These women in the space are multi-talented individuals with diverse skills, growth mindsets, aspirations, and dreams—each with intrinsic value and dignity.
We believe that recognising MDWs as whole, capable individuals is essential to understanding their vital contribution to Hong Kong society and to building a more inclusive and equitable community for all.
Our sincere thanks to Zamira, Jade from Her Fund, Erica from PathFinders and to every participant who showed up so fully. This is just the beginning.

Honouring International Migrants Day: Beyond the Suitcase
Leaving home with a suitcase and a backpack is never just about belongings. For millions of migrants around the world, those bags also carry their dreams, skills, fears, and determination to build a better life.
According to a 2024 global migration report, an estimated 304 million people are living outside their country of origin — roughly 3.7% of the world’s population. They leave home for many reasons: to find work, to reunite with family, to study, or to seek safety from conflict, persecution, or climate-related disasters.
While labour migration still accounts for the majority of international movement, the line between “choice” and “necessity” is often blurred. For some, migration is a strategic decision to secure higher wages or better careers. For others, it is a last resort when staying means facing violence, hunger, or environmental collapse.
Gender patterns in migration are also changing. Men continue to slightly outnumber women, but the gap has been narrowing. In 2024, women represented about 48% of international migrants, reflecting not only family reunification and marriage migration, but also women’s growing role as independent economic actors and breadwinners.
By late 2023, Hong Kong had over 674,000 non‑local residents, including nearly 370,000 MDWs, mostly women from the Philippines and Indonesia. They play a vital role in caring for children, the elderly and people with disabilities, and in managing households, yet are often treated as “third‑class citizens,” valued only for their labour while their aspirations and emotional lives remain unseen.
Many leave their own families behind to work in Hong Kong, motivated by responsibility and the hope of securing a better future. As Hong Kong faces demographic change and rising care needs, its reliance on MDWs is increasing, but discussions about their legal protections, social status and long‑term well‑being lag far behind their importance. Recognizing their dignity and humanity remains an urgent task.

Women’s Journal closed its 2025 activities calendar with the Art and Wellness Retreat: “Refreshed Mind, Recharged Heart for a New Beginning", held on 14 December 2025 at Tamar Park, Hong Kong.
Designed as a holistic, restorative experience, the retreat brought participants together through colour, storytelling, learning, and empowerment. The programme featured an open art jamming session, inviting everyone to create in their own style, unwind, and share moments of laughter and connection through art. Participants were also guided through reflective journaling to revisit their goals and dreams for 2026—honouring both major milestones and the smallest steps forward, all in a judgment-free space.
The surprise of the day was learning henna art led by Sriyanah, SRIYA HENNA , who generously shared her techniques, creative process, and practical tips for crafting elegant henna designs.
Women’s Journal extends heartfelt thanks to all who joined and contributed their positive energy. We look forward to many more inspiring years ahead, continuing to curate experiences that align with your values, aspirations, and purpose.

On this International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, we must recognise the multifaceted nature of violence in modern society. It extends beyond physical harm, encompassing psychological, verbal, economic, sexual, and even digital abuse.
Shockingly, 1 in 3 women globally—approximately 35.6%—have experienced some form of physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime, a statistic that has remained stagnant over the years.
Women from underprivileged backgrounds are disproportionately also affected by these forms of abuse, often facing additional challenges. In this new era, the rise of technology has further complicated the issue, facilitating horrifying acts like online harassment, cyberstalking, and deepfakes.
Violence should have no place in our homes, communities, or this modern world. Let's stand united in our commitment to end violence against women. Together, we can raise awareness and break the cycle of abuse.
