Painting Your Stories T-Shirt Eco Printing Workshop at Unseen Narrative Art Exhibition

Last Sunday featured an incredible workshop led by Women's Journal creative team, Erna Wyanti , focusing on eco printing with natural colors derived from flowers and leaves. The technique involved fermentation using alum powder (tawas powder).

It was a joyful day, as participants created their own favorite colors and shapes on T-shirts. The fact that they proudly showcase their creations adds a meaningful layer of storytelling.

Thanks to Boloku Clothing for providing the T-shirts for this workshop.

To each warm soul who still believes in the hope of humanity,

The journey has begun, and the stories are shifting!

When I started Women’s Journal in 2024, I’ll be honest—I was lost. I didn’t know where this path would lead. But watching so many women thrive has given me a light I never expected to see. "It’s a reminder to keep choosing yourself, to keep growing, even when the road feels impossibly steep. Even when you feel invisible to the world, please know this: I see you. Thank you for never giving up on yourself."

Your presence here today is truly a gift. Whether you’re standing in this room or sending your love from a far, we wouldn’t be here without your endless support. This exhibition isn't just about the art or the room; the real victory is that our stories are finally being seen and heard. Pushing for true inclusion in Hong Kong is a dream realised, and it’s more than I ever dared to hope for.

The lives of Migrant Domestic Workers are filled with challenges, yet mostly go unnoticed. I truly believe that when we give MDWs the space to grow—when we embrace their identities, protect their rights, and treat them with the dignity they deserve—they not only survive, but they soar. No labels, no boxes. Just human beings with incredible skills, big dreams, and a limitless capacity to care with love.

To every MDW out there: thank you for the tireless work you do for families here in Hong Kong, and for the sacrifices you make for your loved ones back home. You are seen! I could not be prouder of us. And to our friends and allies who chose to show up and stand with us—thank you for being in our corner. A huge thank you to our workshop facilitators, Zamira Monteiro, Raquel Amador , Justin Chu, Jonas Ng , Leo Jacqueline , Yixi Chen Erica and Vangi Fong for standing by our side during the learning process.

International Domestic Workers Day, the Unseen Narrative Art Exhibition’s closing party at Quarryside hosts a Human Library session inviting you to witness lives usually confined behind closed doors.

Today session we have Cristy Del Baloloy, Mega Kristin, Liezel Cajepe and Yenni Lestari.

Domestic workers are too often labeled uneducated, poor, unskilled, or undervalued because of their work, but here we set aside stereotypes to listen: to skills honed through labor, resilience in daily care, and the dignity of lived experience.

Come without labels, come to learn, honor, and celebrate the people who hold our homes and hearts—because seeing them as human changes everything. Join us in listening, learning, and acting.

Meet our facilitators!

We could not to see your creation and having fun with Arabella .artistt and Melanie from

Our workshop has fully booked weeks ago, see you tomorrow!

Melanie and Arabella serve as co-heads of Art for All Club, a fully student-led initiative dedicated to making art accessible to everyone. Both born and raised in Hong Kong and currently studying at Northfield Mount Hermon School (Melanie entering her junior year; Arabella a rising senior), they bring complementary artistic interests—Melanie in painting and photography with an emphasis on functional art, and Arabella in painting, ceramics, and museum engagement. Under their leadership, the club has hosted a variety of inclusive workshops, from tote-bag painting to bubble-and-string techniques, designed to welcome participants of all backgrounds and skill levels. They share a conviction that art should be available to everyone and work to create welcoming, hands-on opportunities that lower barriers to creative expression.

Happy International Domestic Workers Day

On International Domestic Workers’ Day, we affirm what should never be controversial:

"Migrant and domestic workers are human beings! Individuals with skills, education, dignity, rights and dreams. They deserve fair wages, reasonable hours, full rest on days off, safe and decent living conditions, enough food and sleep — basic humane treatment is not a luxury, it is the bare minimum. Respect them, protect their rights, and value their contribution.
