is excited that today marks the start of a new era. Thanks to the support from students, staff, alumni, and the University, the “Department of Statistics” has been renamed as “𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞” effective as of 1 August 2025. Since its founding in 1982, the Department had grown to integrate modern data science into its curriculum and research, equipping students with skills in analytics, machine learning, and data-driven solutions across various industries. The renaming is expected to position the Department in better alignment with the latest trends and developments globally in both education and research, ensuring that the Department is not only keeping up with the times, but positioned to better foster collaborations in terms of both interdisciplinary research and industry collaborations.
