【"飛向深空" 國際科創合作發展論壇分論壇三 — 月球探索創新和可持續發展圓滿舉行】
由理大科技及創新政策研究中心、中國宇航學會及國際宇航聯合會聯合主辦的"飛向深空"國際科創合作發展論壇分論壇三──月球探索創新和可持續發展於4月17日圓滿舉行。論壇就月球探索創新和可持續發展進行深入探討，涵蓋月球軌道天文觀測、月球測量任務、空間天氣、月球微納衛星研製、基於商業空間站的探月工程、月壤高保真數字孿生及離散元模擬，以及面向月球資源開發與長期駐留的超聲技術應用等前沿議題。

理大航空航天高等研究院（在籌）候任執行院長于宏宇教授於歡迎致辭中表示，現今談論月球探索已不再僅僅問「能不能去」，而是「如何去得更智慧、更持久、更可持續」于教授亦指，合作是可持續探索的唯一路徑。

論壇匯聚港澳及內地航天領域專家學者，包括中國科學院微小衛星創新研究院副院長張永合教授、理大土木及環境工程學系副教授趙奇教授、理大工程及系統工程學系助理教授溫燮文教授、澳門科技大學月球與行星科學全國重點實驗室教授李剛教授、哈爾濱工業大學衛星技術研究所研究員韋明川教授、南京航空航天大學航空學院副研究員李曉牛教授；理大科技及創新政策研究中心副主任兼建築環境及能源工程學系首席研究員吳池力博士亦出席支持。

【The 2026 Flying to Deep Space-International Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation and Development Parallel Session 3 - Lunar Exploration, Innovation and Sustainable Development successfully concluded】
The 2026 Flying to Deep Space-International Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation and Development Parallel Session 3, titled Lunar Exploration, Innovation and Sustainable Development, jointly organised by PReCIT of PolyU, the Chinese Society of Astronautics, and the International Astronautical Federation, was successfully concluded on 17 April. The session explored innovation and sustainable development in lunar exploration, covering frontier topics including orbit astronomical observation, lunar surveyor missions, space weather, lunar micro/nano-satellite development, lunar exploration projects based on commercial space stations, high-fidelity digital twins and discrete element simulation of lunar soil, as well as applications of ultrasonic technology for lunar resource development and long-term habitation.

In his welcoming remarks, Prof. Yu Hongyu, Designated Executive Director of Aerospace Research Academy (under preparation) of PolyU expressed that discussing moon exploration today is no longer just about "can we go," but about "how to go smarter, more enduringly, and more sustainably." Prof. Yu also pointed out that cooperation is the only path to sustainable exploration.

The session brought together aerospace experts and scholars from Hong Kong, Macao, and the Chinese Mainland, including Prof. Zhang Yonghe, Vice President of Innovation Academy for Microsatellites of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Prof. Zhao Qi, Associate Professor of Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of PolyU; Prof. Wen Xiewen, Assistant Professor of Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering of PolyU; Prof. Li Gang, Professor of State Key Laboratory of Lunar and Planetary Sciences of Macau University of Science and Technology; Prof. Wei Mingchuan, Satellite Technology Research Institute of Harbin Institute of Technology; Prof. Li Xiaoniu, Research Associate of College of Aerospace Engineering of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics; and Dr Chili Wu, Associate Director of PReCIT and Principal Research Fellow of the Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering of PolyU, attended in support.

【Prof. Christopher Chao on Northern Metropolis development】
PolyU hosted the “PolyU Northern Metropolis Future Forum Season 3” with the theme of “Co-creating a Better and Beautiful Northern Metropolis” on 14 April. Prof. Christopher Chao, Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU and Director of PReCIT, gave an interview to Hong Kong Commercial Daily, outlining how PolyU could leverage its research strengths in strategic I&T industries to lay a solid foundation for building a vibrant I&T ecosystem in the Northern Metropolis. Prof. Chao also discussed how the University would align its development in the Northern Metropolis with the requirements of the country’s 15th Five-Year Plan. PolyU would fully capitalise on the strategic opportunities presented by the Northern Metropolis, contributing to Hong Kong–Shenzhen collaboration in I&T and to coordinated innovation across the GBA.

Prof. Bu Siqi, Professor and Associate Head (Research) of Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of PolyU and Core Member of PReCIT, shared with Wen Wei Po on the development of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in Hong Kong. Prof. Bu highlighted that the greatest advantage of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles is their ability to address the limitations of electric vehicles, including fast refueling and strong driving range. However, the development of hydrogen energy still faces various practical challenges.

【PolyU holds inaugural Qian Weichang International Summit】
PolyU reaffirmed its commitment to interdisciplinary research, global collaboration and talent cultivation with the successful conclusion of the inaugural Qian Weichang International Summit (QWIS) on 30–31 March 2026. Organised by PolyU and sponsored by the K.C. Wong Education Foundation, the QWIS was held in honour of Professor Qian Weichang, widely recognised as the “Father of Mechanics” in China. With the theme of “Interdisciplinary Advances in Science and Engineering”, the QWIS brought together distinguished guests and leading academics from renowned institutions worldwide to discuss cutting-edge topics and jointly drive innovation and development in the fields of science and engineering.

The QWIS featured eight distinguished plenary speakers from world-renowned universities, including Prof. CHEN Gang, Carl Richard Soderberg Professor of Power Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Prof. Dario FARINA, Professor and Chair in Neurorehabilitation Engineering at Imperial College London; Prof. GAO Huajian, Xinghua Distinguished University Professor at Tsinghua University; Prof. HU Haiyan, Chair Professor of Mechanics at the Beijing Institute of Technology; Prof. George MALLIARAS, Prince Philip Professor of Technology at the University of Cambridge; Prof. David QUÉRÉ, Professor at the École Polytechnique; Prof. YANG Wei, Professor at Zhejiang University; and Prof. ZHANG Xu, President of the Guangdong Institute of Intelligence Science and Technology. 【培育未來工程精英 - 理大代表出席香港工程院春季傳媒午宴，分享創科未來方向】

【Nurturing Future Engineering Elites: PolyU Representatives Attend HKAE Spring Media Luncheon to Share Future Directions in I&T】

Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and Immediate Past President of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences (HKAE), and Prof. Christopher Chao, Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU, Director of PReCIT, and Senior Vice President of HKAE, attended the HKAE 2026 Spring Media Luncheon. They were joined by HKAE Vice President Ir Eric Ma, Council Members Dr Nim Kwan Cheung, Dr Humphrey Leung, and Prof. Xiang-dong Li, as well as other Fellows and Young Members, to discuss the Academy's latest developments and future directions.

A key highlight of the luncheon was the nurturing of young engineering talents. Prof. Chao introduced the flagship initiative, "the HKAE Pitch Competition on Grand Challenge Engineering Topics for University Students 2025-26 (the Pitch Competition)", to the media. Under the theme of "Human-AI Collaboration," the Pitch Competition actively echoes the HKSAR Government's strategic direction of promoting "AI+" development. Prof. Chao emphasized that modern engineering education should not be confined to the classroom, but should instead inspire students' creativity and breakthrough spirit through hands-on practice. He encouraged students to combine human intelligence with AI technology to propose solutions with practical value, thereby cultivating their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and transforming creative ideas into tangible social impact.
On the same day, the Poster Session, a prelude event to the Pitch Competition, was successfully held at the Hong Kong Science Park. The session allowed guests to get an early glimpse of the participating teams' innovative ideas and research outcomes, injecting new impetus into the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong.

The inaugural “PolyU Top 10 Research & Innovation Stories of the Year” selection and public voting campaign, hosted by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), has successfully concluded. From 20 remarkable research and technology translation stories announced in 2025, more than 7,700 members of the public and the PolyU community cast their votes. The winning projects span five strategic areas—artificial intelligence and data science, life sciences and healthcare, environment and sustainability, materials science, and smart cities—injecting powerful innovation momentum into Hong Kong’s high-quality development.

【Prof. Christopher Chao Attends Jinjiang Promotion Conference to Deepen Jinjiang–Hong Kong Industry-Academia-Research Collaboration】

Prof. Christopher Chao, Senior Vice President (Research and Innovation) and Director of the Policy Research Centre for Innovation and Technology (PReCIT) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), together with Ms Zheng Xiangling, Chairwoman of the Hong Kong China Friendship Association, recently attended the "Joining Hands with Hong Kong to Create the Future: Jinjiang (Hong Kong) Investment Promotion Conference" held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. At the event, they shared successful experiences in fostering close collaboration between universities, enterprises, and Jinjiang.

Representing the higher education sector, Prof. Chao shared practical experiences and achievements in deep collaboration with Jinjiang. He specifically praised Jinjiang for its efficient and pragmatic governance, supportive environment for entrepreneurship, and strong culture of industry-academia-research collaboration. Looking ahead, Prof. Chao expressed confidence in deepening PolyU's engagement in Jinjiang and expanding all-around cooperation in the I&T sector. His sharing not only underscored the solid foundation of Jinjiang–Hong Kong ties, but also offered profound insights for the future synergistic development of the two cities.
