[Showcasing Excellence at ASGH 2026]

We are thrilled to share that Prof. Kelvin Leung was invited to present his research, “NPC Plasma Predictor,” at the Asia Summit on Global Health 2026. 💡

The research addresses the challenge of diagnosis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), where early symptoms are minimal and current methods may be invasive or miss cases. By combining plasma metallomics with advanced ML algorithms and SHAP-based interpretability, Prof. Leung’s group developed a minimally invasive, highly accurate blood test that detects early NPC through subtle elemental signatures. This innovation supports large-scale screening, enables earlier intervention, and ultimately improves patient outcomes while reducing healthcare costs. 🎓

[Event Highlight]

A Mini-Symposium on Emerging Contaminants and Human Health: Towards Sustainable Solutions was held on 14 April 2026. Emerging contaminants are chemicals that pose potential or confirmed risks to the environment or human health, but lack published health criteria.

Six distinguished experts delivered insightful talks on water treatment, microplastics, and other environmentally threatening contaminants. The event highlighted the practical impact of scientific research in addressing real‑world environmental and health challenges.

The applications for Summer Internship Programme 2026 are now open!

All students of BSc (Hons) in BTS, CHEM, and ATS are eligible to apply.

This year, you can find your own internship related to your major and then submit the offer letter for department approval.

Approved students who successfully complete the internship and meet the requirements will be awarded a “certificate” issued by the Department, while an "S" grade will be granted to (year 3) students enrolled in CHEM4095 Internship (1 unit).

Interested students please start your internship search and submit your application by 𝟑𝟎 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 (𝐓𝐮𝐞).

MSc Merit Award 2026

We were delighted to celebrate academic excellence with our MSc Merit Award ceremony this year. On this special occasion, Prof. Matthew Lui presented Merit Award certificates to six outstanding students. All awardees achieved outstanding GPAs and put in plenty of hard work. Each recipient was also presented with a small stipend in recognition of their achievements.
