Next month sees the release of the latest version of Tense Buster – complete with new AI-enabling activities. How will these help your learners?

Tense Buster AI exercises teach students how to use prompts appropriately to enhance their independent learning. The key points are:
- Expertly designed prompts to ensure practice is appropriate and helpful – not just open-ended chatting.
- An understanding of how prompts work – without which learners can’t use AI effectively or efficiently.
- A sense of autonomy – encouraging learners to alter prompts, reuse them for other grammar rules and try asking questions to the AI.

Please contact us at [email protected] if you’d like to try it out with your students.

Home from the Global English Education China Assembly in Beijing – a really useful few days.

Great to catch up with people we've met at the show over the last couple of years, and to meet a lot of new faces too. We had good conversations with College English teachers about CET-4 and CET-6 preparation, and with bilingual school educators about the day-to-day challenges in their classrooms.

The sessions on AI in the classroom were a real highlight. Lots of teachers sharing what's actually working with their students – practical, hands-on, and a bit ahead of where I'd expected the conversation to be.

Thanks to everyone who came by the booth for a chat or a coffee. See you next year.

IELTSPractice – Turn to the experts - A blog from ClarityEnglish 08/07/2026

There are plenty of IELTS resources online. Some are good of course, but others are embarrassingly dire… So, how do you ensure that your IELTS students are getting the very best, reliable advice and guidance on the internet?

In this blog post, Katie Stokes introduces the IELTSPractice blog. It’s crafted by IELTS experts, experienced teachers, and IELTS examiners – and it’s completely free.

IELTSPractice – Turn to the experts - A blog from ClarityEnglish There are all sorts of IELTS websites – some good, others dire. How can you ensure your students are getting the best the web has to offer?

Language learning: Measuring what you really can do 02/07/2026

“The thing about Harry Potter is – nobody knows you are a magician until you do magic. And nobody knows you can speak a language – until you do speak the language.”

Thom Jones makes the case that certificates claiming to show what learners 'can do' are worth very little – until learners actually do it.

‘What’s the point of using a dictionary when I have Google Translate now?’ If learners aren’t saying this, they are at least thinking it.

Google Translate is a useful tool and it’s right to encourage learners to explore it, but it’s equally important to ensure that they recognise its limitations. In the new version of Active Reading we help them explore how online dictionaries provide a wealth of information in addition to the meaning: example sentence, spelling, grammar, pronunciation, CEFR level, and so on. We want learners to get the most out of all of the tools at their disposal – especially the free ones. That includes both translation apps and online dictionaries. A short follow-up to the earlier post on Summer Bridge – the digital summer homework program we built for Hong Kong secondary schools.

The reason it's worked is less about the technology and more about the shape of the thing:
- five weeks
- focused content that the school chooses itself
- weekly release to discourage cramming
- a diagnostic report at the end.

It's targeted at one specific gap in the school year, and that's why teachers have engaged with it.

The wider point is that this is the sort of short, purpose-built course we can put together for other contexts too. Not just secondary English, and not just Hong Kong. If you run a department, a training module, or a program where there's a gap that an off-the-shelf product doesn't quite fill, the same model usually transfers: pick the content, set the duration, get the report.

Happy to talk it through with anyone weighing up whether something similar would work for their learners. Do get in touch!
