Daily Tip #6: Grammar- Verbs Pretending to Be Nouns
Verbs pretending to be nouns are called 'verbals' and can appear in three forms: gerunds, to infinitives and bare infinitives. The key is to pay attention to the word preceding the verbal.
Gerund: Samantha enjoys playing table tennis.
To Infinitive: Samantha wants to play table tennis.
Bare Infinitive: "Let's play table tennis," suggested Samantha.
Remember, the verb preceding the verbal will determine whether you must use a gerund, to infinitive or bare infinitive.
