On 24 September 2026, students from the CityUHK School of Law attended a panel discussion with speakers from Clifford Chance, one of the world’s leading international law firms. Organised by the School of Law Students’ Professional Development and Public Service (“PDPS”) Programme and held at CityUHK, the event gave students first-hand insights into the firm’s culture, work and career opportunities.
The panel featured Ms. Bonny Hui, Graduate Recruitment Manager; Mr. Ryan Wong, Counsel; Ms. Karen Choi, Senior Associate; Ms. Annalie Chow, Associate; Mr. Oscar Chan, Associate; and Ms. Sherry Chan, Trainee Solicitor. With speakers at different stages of their careers, students gained a well-rounded view of life at an international law firm.
Mr. Ryan Wong highlighted the firm’s global opportunities and supportive culture, noting that it looks for candidates who show curiosity, enthusiasm and values aligned with its collaborative culture. In a discussion moderated by Ms. Sherry Chan, Ms. Karen Choi, Ms. Annalie Chow and Mr. Oscar Chan shared how supportive colleagues, cross-border work and new challenges had shaped their careers. Their reflections underscored the importance of building connections, embracing challenges and applying with confidence.
Following the Q&A, Ms. Bonny Hui led an application tips session for students applying for Clifford Chance’s summer vacation scheme. She encouraged them to look beyond the headlines to understand the business and legal issues behind current events, and to let their genuine interests and strengths come through in their applications. Meanwhile, pre-penultimate-year students joined an informal networking session, speaking directly with the firm’s lawyers about their experiences.
We sincerely thank Clifford Chance and all the speakers for generously sharing their time and insights with our students. Special thanks go to PDPS Team Leaders Rui Chi Zhou (JD Year 2), Clary Chan (LLB Year 3) and Marco Wong (JD Year 2), who led 24 PDPS members and interns in organising the event. Their leadership and the team’s collective efforts made the event a success.
