MATHS 2 EXCEL Recently retired after 30 years of teaching with ESF. BRIEF OVERVIEW OF (MATHS' RELATED) ROLES

I was Lead Mathematics Teacher at Quarry Bay School (20 years +) and Beacon Hill School. I have chaired the E.S.F. Primary Maths Group of teachers on two occasions, and I bring a wealth of experience and expertise in the teaching of Mathematics, to children from 7 to 12 years of age.

Business Rationale
I have called my business, ‘Maths 2 Excel.’
I believe that the majority of children are capable of excellence in mathematics, if they are taught with a focus on understanding. The Logo, ‘Concepts Are Key,’ captures my approach to mathematics. Without conceptual understanding, most children find difficulty when attempting to 'Problem Solve.'
A combination of conceptual understanding and procedural fluency (process), produces confident and capable mathematicians. Tutoring Sessions
Following an initial assessment of the student, tutoring sessions will be tailored to meet individual needs, and will contain a combination of conceptual understanding and procedural fluency. Use of Manipulatives (Equipment)
A range of manipulatives will be used, in order to promote visual learning and understanding. Packages
Individual and small group packages are available. Sessions will normally last for one hour. Parents can choose whether to have a 'Face to Face' or a 'Distance Learning' approach. PRIVATE MATHS TUTORING, 2025 - 2026 ACADEMIC YEAR
Hi Everyone,
I have begun to 'put things together' with regard to confirming students for my tutoring services for the next academic year.
I already have 13 students signed up for next year (Year 4 to Year 9).
I limit the number of students I tutor to 15, so there are ONLY 2 sessions available.

PRIVATE TUTORING 2024 - 25 ACADEMIC YEAR
Hi Everyone,
Just a brief note to say, that I have begun to 'put things together' with regard to confirming students for my tutoring services for the next academic year.
In mathematical terms, I am 83.33% full!! (There's no escaping maths!!😉) So; limited places available.

Hi everyone,
I have attached a sample video of my explanation to Year 5 students, on how to subtract mixed numbers.
If you watch the video (or just dip into it, as it's more than 5 mins.), you may notice that my approach is very much based on Conceptual Understanding.
As you will notice if you check details on this page, my philosophy on how children become confident in Maths, is very much based around their understanding of mathematical concepts, rather than procedure alone.
