🌿 Where Rigorous Science Meets Daily Well-Being 🌿

Public Talk and One-Day Mindfulness Retreat with Prof. Eric Loucks

This summer, CUHK is honoured to welcome Professor Eric Loucks, Director of the Mindfulness Center at Brown University, for two inspiring mindfulness events designed to help you feel better, think clearer, and live healthier.

If you want to reduce stress, build healthier habits, and learn how mindfulness can support real-world well-being, these sessions offer evidence-based insights and practical tools you can start using immediately.

1️⃣ Public Talk: The Power of Mindfulness in Health Behaviour Change
📅 Date: 31 July 2026 (Friday)
⏰ Time: 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
📍 Venue: CUHK (TBC)

Discover how mindfulness can help people eat better, move more, sit less, and manage weight more effectively. Professor Loucks will share findings from his NIH-funded programmes, including MB-BP and MB-College, and explain how mindfulness supports lasting health behaviour change.

✨You will gain:
• Practical strategies to support healthier daily habits
• Insights into the science behind behaviour change
• A better understanding of how mindfulness affects both mind and body
• A chance to experience guided mindfulness practice

2️⃣ One-Day Retreat: Transforming Health—From Personal Well-Being to Public Health
📅 Date: 1 August 2026 (Saturday)
⏰ Time: 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
📍 Venue: SPHPC, CUHK

Join an immersive full-day retreat combining mindfulness practice with the latest scientific evidence. This retreat is grounded in the nine interrelated contemplative steps — mindfulness, curiosity, energy/courage, ease, joy, concentration, equanimity, loving-kindness, and compassion. These steps form the foundation of Professor Eric Loucks’ forthcoming book, making this retreat a rare opportunity to learn directly from the source of this important new work.

✨You will gain:
• A deeper appreciation of nine contemplative practices for daily well-being
• Insight into how mindfulness can help with anxiety, depression, stress, chronic pain, and physical health
• Fresh ideas for applying mindfulness in digital tools and leadership

🗣️About the Speaker: Prof. Loucks is a professor, researcher, and innovator in the study of mindfulness and health. As Director of the Mindfulness Center at Brown University, he leads efforts to advance the science and application of mindfulness-based practices to improve well-being and address public health challenges. Dr. Loucks developed the Mindfulness-Based College for Young Adults (MB-College) programme and the Mindfulness-Based Blood Pressure Reduction (MB-BP) programme, both of which have been evaluated through NIH-funded randomized controlled trials. His research encompasses mindfulness epidemiology, evidence synthesis, and implementation science, with a focus on translating mindfulness research into practical tools that support health and well-being. Dr. Loucks is author of the book The Mindful College Student: How to Succeed, Boost Well-Being and Build the Life you Want at University and Beyond. Committed to bridging rigorous science with real-world impact, Dr. Loucks empowers individuals and communities by advancing evidence-based mindfulness practices that support health and resilience.

Exploring the "Feeling Tone" (Vedana) – A Unique 4-Day Journey 🧘✨

Are you ready to move beyond basic mindfulness and explore the subtle layers of your experience?

We are thrilled to present "The Feeling Tone: Exploring Mindfulness Frame by Frame," a specialized 4-day retreat and teacher training at CUHK. This programme introduces the newly developed 8-week follow-on course for those looking to deepen their practice or teaching.

What is Feeling Tone (Vedana)? Every moment of our lives is colored by a "feeling tone"—pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral. By developing moment-to-moment awareness of these tones, we can:
✅ Unlock habitual patterns of reactivity
✅ Support wiser, more compassionate responses
✅ Deepen our understanding of the "Deeper Mindfulness" curriculum

Who should attend?
This programme is designed for mindfulness teachers, therapists, counselors, and educators who have completed one year of MBCT/mindfulness teacher training.

Note: Completion (or planned completion) of the "Deeper Mindfulness" 8-week programme is a prerequisite.

To help you meet the prerequisites for the October training, Antonia Dorothea Sumbundu will lead a special online 8-session "Deeper Mindfulness" programme this summer (July–August).
📢 Full details and registration info will be released soon. Stay tuned to our page to secure your spot!
