Today we observe World Sea Turtle Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about sea turtles and the vital role they play in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems. These ancient mariners have inhabited our oceans for millions of years and continue to inspire conservation efforts around the world.
Sea turtles face numerous threats, including plastic pollution, habitat loss, climate change, and accidental capture in fishing gear. World Sea Turtle Day reminds us that we all have a role to play in protecting these remarkable species and the habitats they depend on.
By reducing marine pollution, supporting conservation initiatives, and helping to protect nesting beaches, we can contribute to a safer future for sea turtles and healthier oceans for all.

Today we celebrate World Croc Day under the theme "Legacy in Every Scale."
Guyana is home to four species of crocodilians: the Black Caiman, Wedge-headed Caiman, Spectacled Caiman, and Smooth-fronted Caiman. These remarkable reptiles have roamed our rivers, wetlands, and forests for millions of years, playing a critical role in maintaining healthy ecosystems.
This year's theme, "Legacy in Every Scale," reminds us that every crocodilian carries a story of resilience, survival, and adaptation. As apex predators and ecosystem engineers, these species help maintain the balance of aquatic habitats and serve as indicators of healthy environments.
Together, let us celebrate the legacy of Guyana's crocodilians and continue working towards a future where people and wildlife coexist in harmony.

At the Shell Beach Protected Area, every patrol, every nest monitored, and every hatchling protected represents our commitment to ensure that future generations can continue to witness the remarkable journey of sea turtles. This stunning rainbow serves as a reminder that natureβs greatest treasures are worth protecting; together let us continue to conserve the habitats that sea turtles depend on and inspire others to do the same. Happy World Turtle Day from the Board of Directors, Management, Staff, and most importantly the Rangers of the Protected Areas Commission.

π§π On World Oceans Day, we reflect on this yearβs theme: βReimagine: Beyond the World We Know, a New Relationship with Our Ocean.β
Through the LCDS, Guyana is strengthening that relationship by expanding the protection and sustainable management of our watersheds β the forests and waterways that connect directly to the Atlantic Ocean. By safeguarding these ecosystems, we support healthier rivers, stronger climate resilience, and a healthier ocean for future generations.

The ocean covers more than 70% of our planet and is the foundation of life on Earth, producing almost 50% of the oxygen we breathe, and supports most of the world's biodiversity. It also provides a primary source of protein for more than one billion people worldwide.
On World Oceans Day, we recognize the vital role our oceans play in sustaining life, supporting livelihoods, and maintaining the health of our planet. As the lungs of the Earth, oceans are a major source of food, medicine, and economic opportunity, while serving as a critical component of the global ecosystem.
In Guyana, FAO is supporting sustainable fisheries, healthier marine ecosystems, and more resilient coastal communities. Through partnerships with government, fishers, and regional stakeholders, these efforts are helping to strengthen livelihoods, reduce environmental impacts, and promote sustainable management of marine resources for future generations. πππ¬πΎ
