Tip for Parents with Kids Writing NGSA: Help Your Child Reframe the Big Exam

Remind your child that they’ve already prepared for this—they’ve done many practice exams, learned the content, and built their skills step by step. Encourage them to visualise the NGSA as just another practice test, not something scary or unfamiliar.

Tell them:

“You’ve done this before.”
“You know what to expect.”
“Just take it one question at a time.”

You can also help by:

Talking through what exam day will look like so nothing feels unknown
Encouraging them to picture themselves staying calm, focused, and confident
Reminding them that mistakes are okay—just keep going and do their best
Reinforcing that effort and preparation matter more than perfection

The goal is to shift their mindset from fear → familiarity.
When they see it as something they’ve already practiced many times, confidence naturally follows.

Practice Like It’s the Real NGSA
Do past papers and timed practice.
Try both:
Paper 1 – work on speed and accuracy
Paper 2 – practice explaining answers clearly
After practicing, always ask:
What did I get wrong?
Why?
How can I fix it?

Don’t cram the night before.
Study a little every day (even 30–60 minutes helps a lot).
Focus on one subject at a time (Math, English, Science, Social Studies).
