Before saying, “You’re not listening,” make sure your child knows HOW to follow a direction. 💜

Family, sometimes we give children five directions at once:
“Go upstairs, get your homework, put your shoes away, bring your backpack down, and don’t forget your folder.”

Then we get frustrated when they only remember one thing.

Try something different.

Give one or two clear directions.

Then ask:
“Tell me what you’re going to do first.”

Having your child repeat the direction helps you know whether they actually understood what was expected.

Following directions is a learning skill.

And sometimes we have to teach the skill before expecting the habit.
