She explained that Boards of Governors are established under the laws of Guyana and serve as governance bodies responsible for oversight rather than day-to-day administration. The Principal and school administration remain responsible for managing the daily operations of the school, while the Board provides policy guidance, accountability, and strategic direction.
Board members were also encouraged to maintain an active presence within the school community and to work collaboratively with the Principal, staff, students, parents, alumni, and other stakeholders to promote the welfare and continued success of the institution.
Ms. Jaikishun advised that members would receive the Manual for the Governance of Schools by Boards, which outlines the duties, responsibilities, and procedures governing Boards of Governors. She stressed the importance of understanding the distinction between governance and administration to ensure effective leadership.
With the upcoming release of the National Grade Six Assessment results, she reminded the Board that St. Rose's High School remains one of Guyana's most sought-after secondary schools. She urged members to ensure that admissions and student transfers are conducted strictly in accordance with Ministry of Education policies and encouraged the Chairperson to monitor enrolment and admissions throughout the academic year.
In closing, Ms. Jaikishun expressed confidence that, through collaboration among the Board, school administration, alumni, parents, and the wider community, St. Rose's High School will continue to strengthen its reputation as one of Guyana's leading educational institutions.
The installation of the new Board of Governors reflects a renewed commitment to sound governance, accountability, and educational excellence as St. Rose's High School continues to prepare young women for lives of leadership, service, and achievement in the spirit of # .
